Re: Rosewill Glacier 600M (Awesome eBay score!!!)

Nice score P4! :d

Looks capable of 600W, definitely worth a recap, didn't know Rosewill sells Andyson units though :o: all Rosewill PSUs I've owned were ATNG made not a single problem with any of...

Re: Caps choice

As Pentium 4 already said don't use those TK caps, there's no point in replacing unreliable Seacon caps with unreliable TK caps also the change in ESR/Impedance may be too drastic and may also affect...

Re: Xtreme Gear PSAZ-600

Great job, as always!
Remember those resistors are the minimum load needed for stability at minimal or no load conditions, i wouldn't attempt to explain exactly why they need a minimum load...

Re: Fortron 200-50SNV(PF) SFF - dead, no 5VSB

Great job fixing the PSU!! Too bad the mobo didn't make it though.

The cap is immediate left from 1H0165R and it's labeled C28

Re: Fortron 200-50SNV(PF) SFF - dead, no 5VSB

Missed this, can anyone on 230VAC mains confirm if this is right?, i'm on 115VAC so no idea.

Somehow I missed this, it looks like a glass discharge tube (GDT) but not sure, IF it is a GDT it...

Re: Xtreme Gear PSAZ-600

It may be the resistor change, try to put some load in 5V and 12V rails, if that fails and you're absolutely sure that there is no solder bridge, then put original resistors and try again, also...

Re: Xtreme Gear PSAZ-600

Powerfull enough for even something a little bit more demanding I would say, so you recaped this? does it have two 12V rails or is it a single rail design?

Re: Xtreme Gear PSAZ-600

The thing is 20A in 12V Rail will not happen that's not the 12V rating in a sub 300W PSU

Re: Xtreme Gear PSAZ-600

+1

30A schottky for 12V? ...mmm don't think it needs more than 20A, would bet the protection kicks in before you reach 20A in 12V rail.

Re: Fortron 200-50SNV(PF) SFF - dead, no 5VSB

In the 2nd pic you've posted there is a cap with some residue at the top, it could be leaking also there is no 2-transitor circuit in this PSU the 1H0165R is in charge of the 5VSB circuit so asuming...

Re: Xtreme Gear PSAZ-600

Hmm so old design refited to "modern" requirements? ...interesting, definetly usable if recaped and the EMI/Input section gets properly populated, too bad it's a 5V heavy design but if it can do at...

Rosewill RG630-S12 (ATNG design)

I really like this PSU except for the Teapos and the blown TNY277, it's the same model reviewed long ago at HS...

Re: Coolermaster RS-550-ACLY "working" w/clicking sound.

Yes I do, the third one next to the toshiba transistors is D27 = HFA08TB60 it's the PFC diode, on the backside of the heatsink the lone transistor is Q6 = FQPF2N70 this is the 5VSB transistor and the...

Re: Any more info on counterfeit Nichicons?

Well those stencils doesn't look that bad to me, if datecodes in HZ are from 2 years ago like the HN it may be just the result of handling in the warehouse.
I don't know about HN or HZ but HM was...

Re: Cap Datasheet Depot

Here are ChengX DS, this ones were not taken from ChengX website but from a distributor in HK (Bentex (www.bentex.com.hk)), cause those were the only ones I could find in HTML version, I checked like...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Cutting the circuit shouldn't be a problem, but you'll need to ID that switcher and get the DS to understand what (if any) changes are needed to successfully "implant" it into another P/S, also note...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Yeah at first sight I took them for ChengX too .
Ah!... that winding is tiny! it is using like half the space available in that core, still could be enough for Atom boards, but it is definitely...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Yeah crappy indeed, specially the lack of output coils and/or place to install them, but, interesting in some ways like the 5VSB switcher, it has a weird numbering on it, resembling a Unisonic part...

Re: What's the cap for?

Yeah it should be an X cap, seems to be 1uF maybe these diped film caps are cheaper than the X ones but im not sure I've never bought diped film caps or maybe they run out of X caps and just put...

Another way a Two-transistor 5VSB design can kill your board.

Received this computer for repair a few months ago, symptom was no-post, one of the two mosfets from RAM VRM had a leg desoldered the other had its pad lifted and both were making bad contact, the...

Re: "Unapproved" input filtering

It's the first one I've seen with that extreme overheat, but the excessive ripple from P/S was to blame I think. I have pics and a video during overheat, IIRC VRM temp was above 100C/212F, I may be...

Re: "Unapproved" input filtering

I've used more than 200 already, :o:. That rectifier surely is overloaded or very close (that FX is the 95W TDP revision) or maybe K-Mex upgraded that rectifier in later models IDK, anyways I warned...
