Re: Line filter question
Indeed the key thing is insulation - the only way you can get devices with only 2 prongs is that it's completely plastic on the outside for insulation as well as full isolation from the internal...

Re: TIP120 Question
IRF620 is only around 10x faster than the TIP120 :)
BTW, this is specific to Darlingtons. I'm pretty sure you can build custom BJT circuits faster than off the shell Darlingtons, after all people...

Re: Line filter question
op should just leave pe open and not modify the caps or internal wiring, and use a GFCI/RCD for safety. Not ideal but should not result in a fried Dannyx.

Re: Line filter question
Right, it runs hot as it will dump heat (yes, they are underspecced for 100% duty cycle) but they do serve a function that a simple resistor can't do...

Re: RF 3 way switch
I don't completely fault ebay other than the exorbitant fees they charge sellers, but there are definitely some sellers that use ebay trying to make a quick buck by exaggerating the description...

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs
No, not pointless or worthless at all, you saved it from the landfill (unless you paid more for the switch than buying a new heat gun... then it would indeed qualify)!
However... definitely...

Re: Line filter question
Yes you will get a little current through the ground Y capacitors when floating but by design it should not be enough to electrocute. Just leave it and yes you should ground it, but as long as...

Re: TIP120 Question
Compare a TIP120 C-E drop with an IRF620 D-S drop at 5A load ... :D
Yes these things are slow but there have been plenty of SMPS with BJTs, though I can't say, other than the MC34063, many...

Re: Resistor value - color coding
Perhaps key observation: if you have a metallic band and it seems to be first or second band... need to flip the resistor around and try again!

Re: Motorcycle flasher mystery.
No
The aspect that it's a diode is inconsequential, the fact that it's an LED that's 4 to 10x more efficient at generating light is the key factor.
Do not go get a pair of 21W super bright LED...

Re: UC384x critical cap
FSCK. Nope, was wrong, the 47µF capacitor was not the critical cap for the UC384x, it's for the 2T standby PSU... So agreed I don't think I can much with the value that much, ugh.... need to locate...

LOL yup, this R7-250 I can get to 65°C under load where the V3900 gets to only 50°C. Now...what to do to get the R7-250 to last longer... and yes this thing indeed is noticeably faster than the...

Re: <play taps>RadeonHD 5770 dead at ... ~10?
Hmm... "new" in the collection: A Radeon R7 250. Now this may start to get up to the speed of the HD 5770. Or not? Testing will tell, once I get the drivers squared away...
I suspect this board...
