Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

These are also sold under the Intertech brand in Romania. They vary in quality, and their OEMs are usually Huizhou Xin Hui Yuan for "high-end" units ("""750W""") and sometimes Allied (aka Deer's top...

Re: ABit BE6-II capacitor diagram

Sounds like you're using PSUs with the ATX 2.2/2.3 standard, since those removed -5V completely. Did you try a cheaper PSU for testing? (any PSU that has a -5v rail, I'm using a beefy Deer unit for...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored these today:

Nintendo Wii, model RVL-001 (1st gen) - working, already done a shell swap on it
PS3 CECHC04 - YLOD, suspecting NEC TOKIN (though RSX isn't out of the equation)
Fujitsu...

Re: Post your system.......

Ah yes, the PC133 variant of the M810 (there is a DDR version afaik, completely different from that one you have).

I do have one of those as well (branded as Totem TM-S730LMV) and as far as I...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored an ASUS G70S before heading home.

Works fine, but had to scrap both GPUs (2x 8700M GT) as whatever monkey tried to do a reflow on them literally popcorned the PCBs on both. No wonder...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Another dumpster find, this time it's a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile D9510.

P8700, 4GB DDR3, 200 GB Toshiba HDD. Only issue with it is bad inverter.

Also got a lead for a very nice ASUS G70S...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored another Acer 6530. This one seems ABSOLUTELY untouched - no marks of flux anywhere.

Probably a failed RS780 which needs reflow (again, chip was never touched, in fact ALL screws in the...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Because where I am staying on my trip for now (Arad), there's literally NO PLACE to find tantalums, let alone 330s.

I managed to find some stuff on a broken L300 board (although the bigger...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Slight update, managed to finally fix the Toshiba A300.

I managed to do quite a contraption:

- 1x 330uF
- 3x 47uF
- 1x 100uF
- 2x 150uF

Managed to cram all that in there because most...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored these at the dumpster

PC - 400W Premier LC-C400ATX, ASUS DVDRW, Maxtor/Quantum HDD (idk what size), unknown red GPU (either ATI X-series or Geforce 6000/7000), USB bracket, ASUS M2N-E mobo,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Update for the HDDs:

Tested both, they work well. Conner was empty, but the Fujitsu had a 2k Pro install that I saved. (had missing NTLDR plus root boot files)

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yeah, shame the speakers' foam are in pretty bad shape. Otherwise, I can agree the A210 and A300 I have, both look pretty sturdy.

Found these at the trash just now:

Conner Peripherals CFA270...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored a Toshiba Satellite A300, with bad NEC Tokin and bad LVDS port (bent pins, one broke when I straightened them, but thankfully it was a GND tab) plus charger.

Fixed it (somewhat - got it...

Re: The Cheapest ATX Power Supply on Amazon Prime, How bad can it be?

I was actually doing that on a daily basis last year, more or less.

450W Frontier - housed a 350W CWT ISO
400W Allied - houses a ~400W (realistically) Premier (DEER) I rebuilt in 2019 and looks...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I'm not sure, but these came from a Gigabyte mobo (also nF2 but with basic features as opposed to the Epox) and have yet to bulge, and that mobo was in use for a good 17 years. Maybe I misread and...

Re: $20 "500W" PSU From MicroCenter, how bad can it be?

I've seen such a fuse in an A-Line crap PSU.

Strange seeing them so gutless, usually most of my units were either some stupidly designed Deer (spots for PI coils but the traces didn't go...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

QFT. Almost all Deers I have sport either Sanyo, Rubycon, Nichicon or UCC KZE in the 5vSB section. At least if anything fails first, it ain't gonna be the standby rail.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Well, you absolutely nailed it!

I managed to get 2x 80GB WD800BB IDE in there, and one of them already had an XP SP3 install (I used a custom disc that had integrated SATA + apps on it) from an...

I might actually try SP1, since that was my first disc of Vista I ever had and which worked really nice and fine for me.

BTW, I might also post pictures of that ANS PSU I took out, hopefully with...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Could be they had a lot of 700MB casings left and reused them on 850MB drives? I've seen such practice done - Lenovo did this with a 100GB Apple drive. First glance revealed nothing out of the...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yeah, apparently WD did a weird thing. This actually identifies and measures succsessfully as a 850MB WD Caviar 2850.

It had a 2850 sticker at first, which came off to show a 2700 label. Strange....
