Red face Re: Remote pump control ideas.

Here's what I concocted :D It works as I expect it to work. Big shoutout to STJ for giving me this idea...sort-of :D

There's two pieces of code: one for the hilltop tank, the other for the pump at...

Re: Remote pump control ideas.

No idea how much power the board uses (when powered with 12v that is), since I haven't taken it out of the packaging yet :D The GPON will also draw some power of its own.

I'm still working on the...

Thumbs up Re: Remote pump control ideas.

I think this only works for sketches you write with Cube (or is it Eclipse....couldn't quite figure out which is which yet, since there's so many pieces of software required to get this thing going...

Re: Remote pump control ideas.

That goes slightly over my head, but speaking of which: these are much nicer packed than I expected and the packaging mentions something about them coming pre-loaded with some stuff, and it would be...

Thumbs up Re: Remote pump control ideas.

That might be an issue in more "industrial" applications where they risk getting zapped easier, but I'm sure it can be dealt with...

Re: Remote pump control ideas.

No RJ45 connector on that guy, so I guess I'd have to hack in a shield to get it online. Haven't looked into it, though the form factor is appealing - it's like a Nano, just with an STM chip on it.

You mean THIS (https://stm32-base.org/boards/STM32F103C8T6-Black-Pill.html) ?
At first I thought it was some sexual innuendo or something, since that's what I got among the first results on dear...

I decided to have a look at Modbus as well, since like I said - it's always been a confusing topic to me. I woke up feeling motivated today and managed to understand it a bit better :D I downloaded...

Thumbs up Re: Remote pump control ideas.

It's Ethernet over fiber - the same kind we have in our homes. I don't know the correct terminology for this stuff :D In complete layman terms, it gives each shack access to the internet through...

Thumbs up Re: Remote pump control ideas.

No - the network side is already in place. Fibers terminate somewhere in our datacenter, or whatever.... I was hoping it'd be a simple Media Converter box at each end, with the fiber link simply...

Red face Re: Remote pump control ideas.

Yeah, it's my fault. I said I wouldn't shoehorn another project in here which has nothing to do with the original one, so let's fold back.

It all started with trying to control a three-phase pump...

Re: Remote pump control ideas.

BTW, any suggestions for small form-factor boards with wired Ethernet ? The Nucleo 144 is WAY too big physically for building small "clients" - it's a waste of both space and hardware to just read...

Well, no, they're not - the Arduinos are for people getting started with this sort of thing. You CAN get into more complex stuff with them, but they're not industrial-grade. They're useful for small...

Red face Re: Remote pump control ideas.

So I thought. Makes perfect sense and is completely logical, but unfortunately this is slightly limited in the case of the Wiz W5x00 series the arduino library works with, that's why I thought I'd...

I WAS planning on doing it this way, though I haven't actually TRIED it on the bench, due to a lack of both inspiration and hardware. Reading about it though, like I said, revealed some issues. On...

Talking Re: Remote pump control ideas.

Yes, but from a code perspective, I don't see a way for the "server" board to actually initiate the connection to each client. The commands here (https://www.arduino.cc/en/reference/ethernet) don't...

Re: Remote pump control ideas.

That's a different approach indeed. The way I had it set up was based on the pump idea where a client connects to a server and that's it.

Sounds like what you're suggesting is to have multiple...

Red face Re: Remote pump control ideas.

I too thought it would be simple conceptually, but as I read online, there are some snags one might hit with this multiple-clients-to-one-server business, limited strictly to the Arduino world: you...

I just thought of something I thought would be trivial but could end up being tougher than I thought: connecting multiple clients to a single server....not too sure yet what hardware I'll be using...

That's a good point....guess they can spare an Ethernet jack in each room then :D Now to settle on an appropriate board. The STM one is.....kinda oversized for this application I think :D Still,...

Red face Re: Remote pump control ideas.

I/O count is not a problem, since for this next project I was talking about, the end goal is to essentially create some "ears" which light up the corresponding room number on a panel located in the...

Looks interesting. If I understand correctly, it's an IDE for ARM-based boards, which supports multiple platforms (https://os.mbed.com/platforms/), doing away with compatibility issues that arise...
