I don't want to even say what I think of that, given the $$ we engineers and techs have spent on Fluke over the years, but pathetic is not a strong enough word.

I replace caps for a living, but recently decided to try and fix a multimeter I picked up at a yard sale:

It is in surprisingly good shape, needs a new battery door...

leaning over "o" symbol is definitely Nichicon, look at the datasheet linked to in post#2

Here is what I am unclear on, I can see now that these are definitely Nichicon, and I see the high temperature marking, but how do you know they are the UX series, it seems like there are about 20...

I have a stock of very high quality low-ESR, 105C, through-hole caps from the manufacturers at the bottom of my signature and considering replacing these with them!

they are about ~12 years old.

an even more important reason to avoid ebay, is that it is not just enough to get one of the 4 high-end brands of caps listed in my sig, but you must have chain of custody due to there being so many...

Nichicon only has 4 authorized distributors in USA that keep inventory in stock, they are:

Digi-Key
Mouser
Newark
Arrow - Verical division

the first two for sure are just as low cost as...

yes, we are a materialistic bully country! - but the good people are in the minority here so change is hard!

I was using Nichicon as an example, same advice goes for Rubycon, NCC, Panasonic etc....

Digi-Key and Mouser have the lowest prices in America and are fast and reliable and AUTHORIZED - however, due to the high price of international shipping, you should source from the Nichicon...

I think they continued to make some of the older H-series for some corporate clients after they were discontinued from distribution

where are you getting your information that this distributor is authorized? - from the Nichicon website I hope?

Nichicon has not made these three old series you mentioned in a long time, no...

It's really simple, just buy from the authorized Nichicon distributors (which means pretty much DigiKey & Mouser) - you will NOT get fakes from the authorized distributors, but you have a very HIGH...
