The Not-So-Cool Cooler on the XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP

Right. So this is the reason I didn’t want to fully stress the 1st recapped 6800 XT card: the cooler.

Re: Very old Sanyo OS-CONs. Safe to use?

Corrected that for you. ;)

Well, at least I would gladly use these over GSC / Evercon / Sacon FZ and Rulycon (fake Rubycons, no surprise). Heck, these might be better over a lot of other junk...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

PhotonicInduction to fuse: "I popped it!"
Curious what the failure was.

Garbage PSU is garbage, though. :trashcan:
Like the rest of these, I suppose:...

Re: Very old Sanyo OS-CONs. Safe to use?

So what's your short answer then? :)
Use them? Don't use them? Try them.
I'd say try with caution. Or better yet, first charge to full voltage and check leakage current. If all is well... let's go!...

Re: $20 "500W" PSU From MicroCenter, how bad can it be?

Yeah, a lot of our PSU experts/fellas are gone now, or at least not on BCN anymore is what I mean.

c_hegge, 370forlife, Pentium 4, and probably a few more. I haven't heard from Everell either....

Re: Overclockable Dell computers.

Well, all I can say is I don't have any and never even heard of 4 GB DDR2 that isn't registered - at least any that is compatible with Intel. I've heard there is 4 GB DDR2 high-density memory that...

Re: Short on motherboard Gigabyte GA H97 Gaming

Most likely the motherboard has a shorted MOSFET on the CPU VRM (probably an upper MOSFET.) Either that or something wrong with one or more of the MOSFET driver(s).

Of course, before doing...

Re: Task TK-940TX-DF Blowing fuse

Let's keep knocking.
Try also removing the big white resistor.
If bulb is still glowing, remove bridge rectifier and test out of circuit or swap into another working PSU (that you...

Smile XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP [PV-T42K-UDE3] – recapping and mods

Aaaaand… we have more retro-PC nostalgia repairs again.
This time it’s with a XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP video card. The XFX model number is PV-T42K-UDE3.

As with many early XFX cards, crap caps are...

Re: higher standby voltage on a phillips tv power supply

Another suggestion, though I'm not sure how well it would work (or if at all):
Replace the AZ431L with a regular 431 (i.e. TL431) if that's all you have in stock. Then increase the value of the...

I can't see too many details on the picture you uploaded how, where, and which the wires/windings are broken... but if it's just a few turns, you can use magnet wire to connect to the broken...

Re: Task TK-940TX-DF Blowing fuse

Hmm. So bulb is still glowing even with the new bridge rectifier removed?

Looking at the first picture, I see two more components that may be playing tricks on us: those orange "102" ceramic caps...

Re: Lenovo Ideacentre B540 All-in-one - Black Screen

Hmmm. Caps in the PSU are good brand (at least the few shown in the picture), so maybe that's not the issue.

Did you check the thermal compound and heatsink contact on the CPU?
Also, try...

Re: Lexmark 544dn power supply buzzing sound model 40x5409

Yeah, that's a bit too high even for a small cap.
And the thing is, those small caps are often used for the "start-up" circuitry, so the PSU not starting could be due to that as well. I've fixed a...

Re: Cleaning the flux: 99.8% isopropyl vs 70% isopropyl + 30% ethanol mix?

A quick search online suggests Ethanol is also safe, and sometimes used in place of IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol, not the beer ;) ) due to being cheaper.

I've also used and seen others use...

Re: How to correctly desolder through hole IC?

Nope, still no success for me.

By default, I use a 5.2 mm bevel tip with my 75-Watt station. It has enough thermal mass and heat transfer to melt a large blob/pool of lead-free solder for flooding...

Re: The Cheapest ATX Power Supply on Amazon Prime, How bad can it be?

Even so, IMO those are still pleasantly-surprising results. Given the components inside and seeing this PSU manage 400W continuous DC load shows it's probably designed quite alright.

Of course,...

Re: Very old Sanyo OS-CONs. Safe to use?

I'm no cap expert, but given that these are solid polymer capacitors, I don't think they will deteriorated as fast or as bad as regular electrolytics. So most likely, they are probably OK.

Before...

Re: Ps3 fat Cechk04 no power

Yup, we are on the same page then with the case design.

I'm still not convinced about the PSUs, though.
Perhaps post PSU model numbers to be clear? ;)

Re: Ps3 fat Cechk04 no power

You sure you're not confusing the fat with the slim PSUs?
All of fat (old style shiny top cover) PS3s I've taken apart had 5-pin PSUs.

The newer smaller (slim) PS3s are the ones that have the...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

The Ruby MFZ probably sat on the shelf too long without use, and they don't like that too much either (though nowhere near as sensitive as UCC KZG). I've also never seen MFZ in that size offering...

Re: Xbox One Power Supply - Orange Light & the dies when console is plugged in

OK, I see now the originals are three TAICON caps (not JACKCON) and one Samxon, but looks like you used the JACKCON caps for the repair. If that's the case, you may be better off with the Taicon and...
