Re: Fwiw: Apc ups

The real fix is to replace the faulty battery(ies) and run a runtime calibration.

Astec AA15990 Schematics

Does anyone have schematics to this PSU? I've got one with an apparently shorted 12V rail. Pulled and checked the rectifier, it's good. Now I'm not sure where to start looking for shorts.

Re: Can halogen bulb damaged trip breaker?

Likely that bulb. Replace it and see if it trips again.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I've got an HD5850 1GB from '09/'10 or thereabouts. Still in service today in my friend's spare gaming rig (which I pieced together from older computer parts that I used and then upgraded off of)....

Re: Intel has a new logo

My i7-4790K easily pushes my exhaust temp to 95F under full load. And that's with a Noctua NH-D14 CPU HSF. Averages 145-160F CPU temp under full load.

Re: Intel introduces ATX12VO spec eliminating 3.3 and 5v

So is this going to apply to AMD boards as well? If not, will we now have 2 different standards running in parallel, ATX and ATX12VO?

And do you think AMD is going to adopt this in the long run?...

Re: Comet Lake laptop insane temps and memory

Still beyond infinitely stupid to design a laptop to run the CPU right up against it's thermal limitations. Tjunction may be 100C, however, that's maximum temp. Certainly shortens the lifespan of the...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Ouch, I wouldn't trust it with anything critical.

Fill it totally full of data by writing /dev/urandom to it. (dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sdX bs=4096). Check SMART.

Then do 2 full reads...

Those WD drives will run dang near forever. I've got a 21 year old AC14300R, still in service. Also have an 11 year old 160GB (or a 320GB) WD Blue, perfect health. Have a nearly 10 year old 640GB,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Oh my, that's an old drive! I'm going to guess it's from the early 1990s, has very basic SMART capability, it's a Series 2 drive and it's roughly 700MB in size.

So far, all inputs that I've tested (HDMI 1 through 3, antenna) work just fine. Need to test the composite and component video inputs and it'll be up for sale.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Seems like a pretty solidly built unit for 300W, just has cheap caps, a cheap fan controller, an oversight in heatsinking and airflow, and cheap caps. With some simple modifications, this could be a...
