Re: Short finder

I have the parts you need to buy from ali, I don't have a few parts that need to come from mouser/digikey.

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

That doesn't sound insurmountable. Couldn't we slap a linear regulator on there and get the current required?

Re: peavey xr1212

Peavey is a great company when it comes to providing schematics, etc. They will also sell parts if they have them, and they have had some parts to some very old amps I have repaired.

Re: 2DIN Android Radio YD7388 amp short in one output

My guess would have been the Y7388 AMP IC also. If you find something else that is damaging the Y7388 and you need to replace it again, there is a better chip that is pin compatible that you might...

Re: For laptop/PC repair what V and A rating should my probes be?

I bought these probes about 2 years ago, and I have been very happy with them. They are pretty commonly available on ali in different kits. I'm just a dabbler, but they have been good to me, and...

I have been waiting for this to become available, but I admit, I'm starting to lose faith.

Re: Dell laptop LA90PE0-01 charger repair

I was wondering how long it took you to dig that all out. I took one apart for fun, saw the glue and said nope! If we were lucky, it might be thermoplastic, maybe warming could soften it, but...

Re: Dell Latitude e6510 Boots Once in UEFI

Thank you. I'm going to try this once I'm at a place where I can reboot and be without my computer for a while should things go wrong... I have a spare small partition, I might just throw freedos...

Re: BEST BST-863 vs Atten 863D

I thought it was a nice touch that it came with a holder that you could point down and reflow chips, but the bottom is solid, so that's not going to work.

The cord looks short, the handle looks...

Re: Dell Latitude e6510 Boots Once in UEFI

Yeah, I was considering that, but was concerned that if I did so, it might just die completely. :)

Do the bios chips get fatigued? Or is corruption more likely? I suspect the last windows update...

Dell Latitude e6510 Boots Once in UEFI

Ok, really strange problem here. I have a laptop, a dell latitude e6510. When I go into the bios, I can delete all the efi boot options, replace one, and have it boot. When I shut down the laptop,...

Re: Desoldering station/gun above ZD-915/474A++ ?

Maybe stretching the spring works if you clean it more often than I do. There's usually a solder ball lodged way up in the narrow part of the spring. It's a pain.

Anyone want to wager a guess...

Re: Desoldering station/gun above ZD-915/474A++ ?

Pretty funny, he must have sucked a lot of solder to melt the tube. It's kind of like a nervous twitch of mine, but I'm always pulling the trigger to make sure that no solder is stuck, I bet it also...

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

I have done some i2c work lately, and if I can't communicate with the chip, the first thing I do is scan for addresses, not to really check for the address, but to verify communication and wiring.

Re: New tool to find short capacitors on motherboards : shorty with display

If there's a question of addresses, there are sketches included in the arduino gui where you can flash a program to the arduino and scan the i2c or spi bus for addresses.

Re: Desoldering station/gun above ZD-915/474A++ ?

I have the 474a++. I think they are all still plastic. Not sure seeing into the chamber would help anyway, there's a spring like solder catcher, you can't see through it.

Overall, I think the...

Re: Finally bit the bullet on the Hakko FR301

Yeah, it has been years since I opened up my desoldering gun base, but the pump is about fist sized. It's not small, and I have no lack of suction. The base is a bit oversized for what's in there,...

Re: Desoldering station/gun above ZD-915/474A++ ?

I'm still on my first tip. Sometimes I leave the iron on because it takes a while to heat up. Not really that long, but longer than I want to wait to desolder a joint. So the tip has had plenty of...

Re: Finally bit the bullet on the Hakko FR301

I have a chinese one, and I love it. Takes some time to heat up, but once it hits temp it works well. Sometimes you need to add a bit of pb solder to the joint, but when you pull the trigger and...

Re: Anyone ever hear of this solder brand before?

I highly recommend getting a pound of solder from digikey or mouser. It's much cheaper than you think (iirc, a pound of AIM was around 20 USD), and it will last you a long time. Cheap solder really...
