Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

Yeah, it's a pain when this happens, i think it might be a bug. Now that first cap must have shorted out and burned a hole through the can, I wonder what it looked like to see it fail, probably...

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

I can't see your photos, which leads me to guess they timed out while you were writing the post (since i can see they're all Badcaps URLs, so you didn't use 3rd party image hosts). I've had the exact...

Re: EcoSmart 5csbr650stq1d03 LED light

Can't say that comment aged well, as at some point, Philips somewhat cleaned up their act while GE and Sylvania cut corners on their lamps, possibly to make their LEDs look better in comparison, one...

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

Considering the fact they were bought by MLS Co. Who is a Chinese lighting company, it doesn't come as a surprise to me.

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

And i was at my local Home Depot, and they had nothing but Chinese-made Sylvania tubes.

Re: Cap Datasheet Depot

Found these for a company called Anxing Electronics (http://www.axboom.com/en/), aka Axboom, which seems like a slightly unfortunate name. Anyway, here are the datasheets to add to the depot.

Re: Modding Two PSUs to Output 12V

Sorry it's been a while, i did not have a lot of time last week for working on this, and when i finally did, my 2 1/2 month old phone, which i use for taking photos, bricked itself.

Anyway, the...

Re: Modding Two PSUs to Output 12V

So i decided to troubleshoot the 48v PSU a bit more today, and found a dead .47 ohm resistor, so i replaced it with what i had on hand, and now the PSU tries to turn on, but is unable to. The main...

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

Yeah, but in this case, these were just some standard 4100K and 6500K tubes in 2ft, and 4ft lengths. They still had the Alto branding though.

Re: Another Dead CFL...that seemed to have lasted.

I know i'm a bit late to the party, but i thought i'd add a couple comments.

The Ecosmart CFL might be made by TCP, most of TCPs older CFLs would last a really long time, though some older TCP...

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

They're current plan is to move production to India or Poland, but i would not be supried if some moves to China as well.

I probably should have added this, but the T12s are still made in the USA,...

Re: Light bulb flicker when turning on after long time off.

Satco, Sylvania, Duracell (Sold exclusively at Batteries + Bulbs), and a number of generic brands that are not worth listing seem to get their linear lamps from China, i've also seen Satco F40T12s...

Re: Sanmim 12v Power Supply, Pulsing Output

That's what i did, but before doing so, i ran a little test to see how the PSU behaved with one side of the optocoupler disconnected, and the results of that are:

Primary side disconnected: No...

Re: Modding Two PSUs to Output 12V

Yeah i'm starting to think about that, partially because i accidentally blew up the 48v PSU when i accidentally shorted the aux output while trying to check its voltage (before modding it), the odd...

Re: Sanmim 12v Power Supply, Pulsing Output

The load resistors did nothing, the power supply started pulsing anyway. The last ideas i have might just be me grasping at straws, but i wonder if the fault could be caused by either the control...

Re: Modding Two PSUs to Output 12V

So i've mostly only read the first article and one thing i'm starting to notice is the Genssi 36v PSU is a slightly beefed up version of the one in the article, whereas the generic 48v PSU is a...

Re: Modding Two PSUs to Output 12V

I don't have any use for a 36v or 48v power supply, so they're kind of useless to me even though they work, and maybe i might be able to learn something along the way. I am fully aware that i can buy...

Modding Two PSUs to Output 12V

Hello again, this might be a bit of a far-fetched question, but is it possible to modify a 36v and a 48v power supplies to output 12v? Both power supplies appear to use the same topology, they both...

Re: Sanmim 12v Power Supply, Pulsing Output

So the heating thing did nothing, i used a soldering heat gun set to 212F and aimed it mostly at the chip and diodes. So at this point i may just follow R_J's advice about adding a load resistor to...

Re: Sanmim 12v Power Supply, Pulsing Output

Sorry about my last comment, whenever things don't go to how i'd expect them to during a repair, i always suspect i did something wrong, since sometimes, that ends up being the case. I wish i did not...

Re: Sanmim 12v Power Supply, Pulsing Output

It's a small relay board that can only draw at most .6 amps.

And as i was testing the first supply to see what it's issue was, only to find that both PSUs were working fine on the bench, thats...

Sanmim 12v Power Supply, Pulsing Output

Hello Again, I'm back with a small power supply that failed after a whopping 1500 hours of service (impressive, eh?). Now this repair isn't urgent as i do have a few extra units on hand, so i'm...
