Re: What solder thickness/flux type do you prefer?

Dammit, have to feed in several feet of 0.6mm to solder my water pipes!

But really it depends on what what you're soldering. I'd like to get some 0.6mm to work on really small stuff but can't use...

Bestec BPA201S-12V [email protected] wall wart repair

110VAC-220VAC

I had one of these croak on me, was wondering why it died.
I had been running it on 120VDC (first half of my transistor magic smoke generator, err, inverter) and that was a...

Re: Million volt PSU?

For kicks, how would you build a battery powered million volt PSU? (DC, not static electricity) :D

Keep in mind: 1 mA at 1 million volts is a kilowatt...

Tesla coils probably where to start...

Re: Million volt PSU?

True, think I was a bit too optimistic of 1KV jumping 1cm. Based on dielectric strength of air of 3MV/m, 1cm would require 30KV. So that thing probably is no more than 50KV or so.

Yeah looks...

Million volt PSU?

No relation to the seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-High-voltage-Generator-DC-6V-12V-to-1000kV-Boost-Step-up-Power-Module/312347946629

Can such a device actually insulate to 1MV (= 1000KV)? ...

Re: What type of connector is this?

looks like the battery connector for some old cordless phones.

Sigh. Too many unique connectors out there, tough to keep track and then name them...

Re: what did i do wrong?

You need to specify which band for starters.

Getting a spectrum analyzer is the end all, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to strip it and analyze such as I'm not sure what you can do to...

Re: what did i do wrong?

The capacitor just mucks with the low frequency gain of the circuit, but does not do anything about the high frequency. The antenna design is the sole contributor to the RF gain as there's no RF...

Re: Fisher Scientific T-30 Metal Detector - Circuit schematic

These old metal detectors (along with even new ones) are still working the same way, they should be implementing an oscillator which changes frequencies when you pass over metal objects. Yeah I...

Re: Microwave Oven Capacitor Testing

In experiment #2, what if you tried a known good capacitor or what if there's no capacitor there at all, what is the voltage? Just want to also rule out a weak diode...

Re: Something is short on my van, but what?

I've had car batteries die outside of winter - mechanical failure which shows that you never know when they fail. In fact I've never replaced a battery in the dead of winter, by chance. And though...

Re: Something is short on my van, but what?

We've had 100 years of lead acid batteries and... this is new territory?

That's what I feared, nobody has done this study and it's just hearsay yet some people keep claiming that this is true...

Re: Something is short on my van, but what?

I guess since not a peep out of anyone about dilution, it's merely hearsay/feels good/seems legit kind of thing with no scientific studies at all, much like a lot of news these days. Not even for...

Re: Help identify a Zener?

In your PCB, there are no zener diodes at all. All are regular diodes. If any of them were actually zeners, the behavior would be weird.

However in your PCB, physically where the label "D104"...

Re: Something is short on my van, but what?

So nobody knows how much longer? And what's the concentration needed to make a difference, assuming normal charged battery acid is around 30%?

Is it worth it if you live in a hot environment,...

Re: Something is short on my van, but what?

how much longer is 'much longer'?

Diluting the electrolyte, if you can have a reservoir to keep enough sulfate ions around will end up increasing ESR of the battery. If the same volume of liquid...

Oddly enough there aren't many fat people here interested in a stand up scooter :D (I don't have the optional seat...)

Maybe I could squeeze a bunch of old lead acid batteries on the deck. ...
