Re: Genius Ultramatic R2-T3 remote,Need help identifying component

Now I've got a bunch of reading to do! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I hate not knowing how things work. Where's bigclive to do a complete circuit analysis when you need 'im, lol.

Genius Ultramatic R2-T3 remote,Need help identifying component

This is out of a wireless (RF) remote for one of those power lift beds for seniors. Remote says "The Genius Ultramatic" on it, and is model #R2-T3 (03-680252-03), FCC ID: MG8-R2-T. Standard Motorola...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

@somes2121: You mean for reballing, or for installing the GPU? Don't think there really is a "proper" profile that matters for reballing. You're just heating things up until the solder balls melt...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

That's the DIRECT-heating method, different stencils than what's shown in the pictures above. The stencils shown are the INDIRECT type, and are not designed to have heat applied to them at all.

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

This is a really good tip for direct-heat stencils. I usually like to do about 5 balls on each opposite corner though. If there was only one ball on each corner, you're at high risk of ripping a pad...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Yes, but as I said, in my experience doing anything BIGGER than small GPUs like GP106/GP104 (37mm x 37mm) is an issue with direct heat stencils. I've done TU104 with direct heat stencils before, but...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Tried using the indirect stencil on GP106 followed by heating in my bench oven. Still using Amtech 559. Better results than with hot air, but still needed to fix 30-50 balls (including the ones I had...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Adding missing solder balls is easy. It's not so easy to clean up merged solder balls without nuking the rest.

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

GTX 1070 is the exact same BGA footprint as the one I'm currently working with. In my experience, this is pretty much the size limit of what direct heating stencils will do. Any direct heating...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Oh I agree with you there, they really shouldn't move. Anyhoo, what type of hotplate do you mean? One of those smooth-top ones they use for removing phone screens, or the ceramic circuit board...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Hot air soldering gun at minimum fan, with the snout removed for minimum air velocity, and a decent distance away (4"). Some balls are running together before I even start heating, so that's at best...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

The problem is that the solder balls run together after I remove the stencil, and even more so when I begin applying heat and the flux warms up and gets thinner. Probably 100-200 solder balls to...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Was using direct heating stencils. Now trying a reballing jig that takes 90mm stencils. The kind you mentioned, with the removable top and a slide vise that holds the chip. Direct heating stencils...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

This is 0.45mm solder balls on 0.7mm or so pitch. Specifically, an Nvidia GP106 GPU.

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Well I'm trying the exact method as you've outlined, and I have yet to successfully reball a chip using the stencil holder and Amtech 559 flux (there are 2 different variants of 559, I'm using...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Just because it says Amtech... if you got yours from eBay, I'm almost certain that you're not using genuine Amtech.

Anyhoo, Amtech themselves will sell to my country from their website...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Can't buy Amtech flux in my country. Seems to be a US-only thing. There are all kinds of Chinese fakes available, but the real thing doesn't seem to be available.

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Sounds faster than what I'm doing. I dump a bunch of solder balls on top and chase them around with a Q-tip. Direct heat stencils don't have a stencil holder around them to stop the loose balls from...

Re: BGA reballing techniques and equipment

Time goes to initial cleanup, solder ball placement, inspection, and patching defects. 559 flux holds the balls in place? I've never used indirect stencils, don't know much about them.

Post BGA reballing techniques and equipment

I work mainly with larger (2000-3000 ball) BGA chips, typically 0.4-0.55mm solder balls. I've reballed many of these, and it's always a royal PITA. My current system is direct heat stencils and hot...

Re: Gigabyte RTX 2070 error 43 but no artifacts, crashes on driver load

I did use an oscilloscope to check the output of each DrMOS (when I still had the card), and all phases looked even. Initially, that was my suspicion too, that I had a dead power phase. But...

Re: Gigabyte RTX 2070 error 43 but no artifacts, crashes on driver load

Yes.... Now what measurements led you to the conclusion that you had faulty DrMOS chips? In what way were they "bad"?

Re: Graphics card Schematics and Boardviews

For all GP106/GP104-based cards (GTX 1050 - 1080), refer to the GTX 1080 schematics, which are readily available. Circuit is nearly identical on all models. See post #131.

Re: Gigabyte RTX 2070 error 43 but no artifacts, crashes on driver load

I ditched the card. Somebody wanted it worse than me, and was willing to pay for it.
