Re: CP1500EPFCLCD - failure

2015=Been around for a good while, but I don't consider it that old yet.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Same with i815. Also the same with Voodoo 3, at least for Direct3D.

Re: Topcat's Ultimate Pentium 4 Retro Gamer!

I can imagine people doing this now with the VRAM on modern video cards.

Re: PSU weaken - occasional reset

That PSU looks much better than expected for Raidmax!

Albeit it's likely overrated in watts, wouldn't be surprised if the components are intended for 500W to maybe 750W.

Those caps, however, is...

Re: GTX 1660 BIOS Beep Error

One long and three short bleeps=it means video init failure. I'm afraid it's dead.

However, back in 2004, when I had my Asus A7V8X-X and tried a Radeon 9600 SE, before returning it, which the...

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?

Don't know, sorry. Especially that you installed a GTX 970, a much more sane card.

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?

In that case, then you need CSM, which is enabled by default, IIRC.

Because there's no way a video card that old, has GOP. (graphics output protocol, a standard for UEFI)

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?

I never witnessed this wacky-ness with a UEFI-BIOS, but this will happen with legacy AMI BIOSes on Asus motherboards when a UEFI-era video card is installed, such as installing a Radeon RX 580 on an...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I wouldn't be surprised if the OEM PSUs are normally better PSUs at the time that PC was made. Looks like another case of an OEM PSU being replaced with a super cheapo PSU. Like a PC that I saw, with...

Re: socket 775 forever... no, no, no...

Yep, just like good ol' XP x64 Edition, which will also run well with 4 GB of RAM.

Because NT 5, unlike NT 6/10, will not take 512 MB to 2 GB of RAM just for itself when idle at the desktop,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The only thing bad about a 9th-gen, is if you can't flash the UEFI-BIOS to fix a critical remote-code-execution CSME exploit. It has the highest severity rating of all recent ones! With some laptops,...

Re: Hard drive reliability

May be a problem with the board. 5 MB/s means possibly in PIO mode, which usually doesn't happen with SATA. Do you have any ATA communication errors?

Re: Asus Prime Z270-A shuts down

Sounds like it's activating thermal shutdown or it shorts the PSU.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I think the non-APU versions are better. I have what's a refreshed version of this, but CPU-only version of the gen after Richland.

Kaveri, was right after Richland and while it looks better for...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

That socket FM2 system, I see, uses a Richland CPU! The Richlands, are AMD's version of Pentium 4! Those will need at least close to 5 GHz to compete with most 3.6 GHz processors!

Re: Trying to fix LCD samsung tv, half screen with red tint

AS15s appear to have possibly been a fad. All of them I remember seeing AS15s on, were late-'00s TVs.

Re: XBox cannot be turned off?

I had an old PC case where the motherboard would come back on after pressing the power button! I would have to tap it just right, for the motherboard to stay turned off! LOL

Re: Samsung LE46B650 leds turn off in less than a minute.

Those rectangular transformers where you can easily see some of the wire wounds, along with an extra high-voltage warning, screams CCFL.

Re: Samsung UE65JS8500 UE65JS8500LX 5 blinks

We haven't even been able to confirm blink codes for LG and Samsung TVs.

We know that Panasonic, Sony, Sharp and Pioneer (most likely) OTOH, routinely give blink codes for a malfunction.

But,...

Re: Trying to renew my old computer

That's a known symptom of a dead CPU or a socket problem.

If the BIOS got corrupted, then it's very likely that the BIOS chip is faulty.
