Re: Different Kind Of 3 Way Light Bulb Switch

Received socket today and replaced it... took longer to post these pics than to do it, lol.

Nothing special involved, screws, middle terminal is socket for each bulb, AC neutral, and the two...

Re: Sunpower RPS-2600 pinout?

If you're saying that it has 12V output for 10 seconds then shuts down, I would guess that you need to put a load on the major power rails to keep them all regulating within tolerance. For example...

Re: Harman Kardon AVR5 starts, clicks, shuts off

On your second (middle) picture, below the large caps and to the right is what looks like a relay, next to the small transformer. Maybe it's a film capacitor, check the markings on the side if...

Re: OBH Nordica DC adapter

After repairing something like this I cheat and drill an array of small vent holes on a drill press, with the PCB out of course.

I slap some masking tape on for contrast then a ruler and marker...

Re: Different Kind Of 3 Way Light Bulb Switch

Yeah but this is a fancy antique lamp with its own matching stem handle that screws onto the switch shaft in place of the original plastic one. I thought about converting it to a capacitive touch...

Re: Different Kind Of 3 Way Light Bulb Switch

^ No you had it right the first time. I bought the PLT 90-421 that I linked on Amazon. Oddly 1000Bulbs sells it with $2.29 shipping on Amazon but wants $10 shipping if ordered direct from their...

Re: Different Kind Of 3 Way Light Bulb Switch

^ Yes. I need it to do that, and have a rotating side stem switch like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DN4LX4

If it comes with the exterior shell like that one at amazon, it'll...

Re: Different Kind Of 3 Way Light Bulb Switch

Not relevant. I am asking about 3 way where the 3rd way is a separate bulb ( circuit ) instead of a separate ring on the same bulb socket. Whether it is LED or not is irrelevant, but yeah, it makes...

Different Kind Of 3 Way Light Bulb Switch

Fixing a lamp, I have a strange light bulb socket, at least strange to me.

It's a 3 way but not to a 3 way bulb. Way one, primary bulb on. Way two, second base bulb lights up but not primary. ...

Re: Computer fan noise and maintenance

Unfortunately I'm finding more and more cheap fans that are permanently sealed, no lube bung and have some kind of press-fit assembly. Some are even semi-popular brands like Coolermaster and...

Re: Computer fan noise and maintenance

I've washed fans before just to get gunk like tobacco tar off the blades and frame, and didn't disassemble them at all, just shook excess water out and set them over a HVAC register if I was in a...

Re: Computer fan noise and maintenance

Graphite is cheap, if it worked then that's what fan manufacturers would use from the factory.

Practically all of the sleeve bearing type use a sintered bronze bearing which has pores in it. Due...

Re: 18 volt drill power supply.

First, it's entirely possible that the transformer's thermal fuse has blown but only due to a temporary condition. Put the transformer on a heat resistant (fire-proof) surface, put a new thermal...

Re: Infinity PS-12 Powered Subwoofer Fired Amplifier

four3rds, yes that's just glue that turned brown from heat. The way they put the shrink wrap on some caps that size, with the plastic disc on there it makes them look a little domed on top like bad...

Re: Why 19v adapter on laptop when they run on 12v

First off, laptops don't run off 12V. Some batteries are 14.4V, some are 10.8V. The difference is 4 x 3.6V Li-Ion in series (and sometimes 2 series in parallel) for 14.4V, or 3 x series for 10.8V....

Re: Zyxel PSU

1) I am assuming you have a zyxel network switch that stopped working because the power supply for it failed.

Any of those 3 capacitors you linked should work, but I wouldn't get the Rubycon...

Re: Choke/coil/inductor: replacing or measuring

You can probably get away with just cutting the heatshrink tubing off, inspecting the windings to make sure they don't "look" like the enamel is burnt off to make any shorts, then unwind a winding or...

Re: To be -5v, or not to be -5v? That is the question

Some OEM motherboards and aftermarket (Creative Labs for one) sound cards had audio amp chips meant to direct drive speakers, also made use of the -12V rail to give 12V/0/-12V supply.

Back to the...

Re: Win xp ?

I ran systems with ~3.3GB (out of 4GB installed, minus overhead from 32bit limitation) and saw no difference from SP3, but with heavy multitasking the extra 1.3GB really sped the systems up. IMO at...

Re: Infinity PS-12 Powered Subwoofer Fired Amplifier

If the resistors are not hot enough to melt their own solder joints and peel traces off the board, it won't be a problem for adjacent SMD unless they overheat themselves an additional amount to the...

It may work, or if the UPS is too sophisticated and monitors the amount of time it charges the battery it could think there is a fault from it taking too long to charge a larger battery.

Try it...

I wouldn't use it on fans,...

Re: Computer fan noise and maintenance

^ What a treadmilll uses could depend on the manufacturer and where it is used. If it is in a gear housing then it's probably 85W petroleum gear oil. That would work, but won't as readily soak...
