Re: Need to find suitable replacement for APL 1086 transistor

The full naming of the regulator is APL 1086 and below it is GK1 GK. That's all there is written on the chip. no luck finding a datasheet for that specific model of the chip. I'll double check the...

Re: How do I unplug this??

That seems to be the flex cable from the display, just pull upwards with a bit of force because those things are usually glued on the underside, after the flex is free you can unplug the cable from...

Probably the drive is dead. Try formatting it and try it out in another machine to make sure.

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?

He said it fell off in transport while he was moving the case somewhere doing something. The case was open and he simply lost it. He must have banged it pretty good for the chip to exit the socket or...

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?

No need but thanks, I'll try to hotflash another chip for it. Found another 8mbit bios chip from another dead mobo. Should work I think, latest BIOS file for my mobo is 940kb.

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?

Ok guys, I stipulate to the fact that the SPI chip is the BIOS and that the mobo would not boot without it. Next step, suggest chip replacements, will any run of the mill SPI flash rom chip work or...

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?

The thing is I know I'm right, I read the sticker on the chip and it clearly says AMIBIOS. Now I'm trying to find out if the spi is a critical component that would stop the mobo from booting or not.

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?

Wrong, that is not the bios as the bios is located at the top right corner of the mobo next to the ram slots. look at this pic, bios chip market with green, label clearly reads AmiBios 636 and some...

Part number? Motherboard model? Can you get the replacement part?
To clean off the part use some flux and rubbing alcohol. Flux is not only used for soldering :)

Re: PSU with 12.67V on the 12V rail, should I be worried?

So I took out my cheap MM and I measured the PSU under load and it gave me 12.15v under load and 12.55v without load. So I took Behemot's advice and adjusted the potentiometers just to be on the safe...

Re: PSU with 12.67V on the 12V rail, should I be worried?

I don't have a quality multimeter so measuring it with a MM would be just as misleading as with software. Behemot, when I opened it I saw 2 little potentiometers near the output of the PSU, do you...
