Re: Antec EA-430D 5VSB issue

If it's a CM6800 or similar APFC/PWM controller on the primary side, here's a generic schematic that's similar to those used in a variety of APFC models, including Corsair CX430, etc.

Re: Antec EA-430D 5VSB issue

I'd guess that it's an APFC circuit failure - the APFC-boosted primary voltage may be out-of-spec and too high. You may also want to replace the avalanche diode in the snubber circuit of the TNY278PN...

Re: Antec EA-430D 5VSB issue

Avalanche protection/clamping diodes can encounter cumulative damage over time, and fail eventually. If it fails short, the switcher will fail almost immediately, since the inductance of the flyback...

Re: Antec EA-430D 5VSB issue

Funky - seems to be Delta OEM, or at least shares the main trafo part number with Delta. If it had been built by Delta, it should not have failed easily, but of course, things do fail occasionally on...

Re: Question about SS-400ET

I had to use whatever Japanese caps I had in hand that would fit in the space available (10mm and 8mm at most of the secondary locations). There's a 2200uF/16v/10mm Taicon HH that I have in stock,...

Re: Asistance required on troubleshooting Corsair CX500

There may not be enough space in the Corsair CX... units for a 450v/105c cap - choices are limited, but there's a Samxon HP(M) 220uF/450v/105c cap that will fit - it's in the tall and thin...

Re: Question about SS-400ET

* 9-year bump *

I got an SS-400ET which was functioning fine despite its ~2013 initial sale date. All rails were in spec, and no visible cap failures (mostly OST RLS and one Teapo on the...

Re: Socket 940/939 Cooler bracket failure

I've seen this happen before. The metal integrated heat-spreader varies in height between Socket 939 and Socket AM2/2+. It looks like the HSF is interchangeable between the two, but the difference in...

Fatman iTube (aka Dared MP-5) tube-buffered gainclone upgrades

The Fatman iTube (OEM Dared, which also sold its own-branded version, the Dared MP-5) is a tube-buffered gainclone first introduced c.2005, to target the iPod market with a bookshelf tube setup. It...

Re: Asistance required on troubleshooting Corsair CX500

I'm seeing 85c GP caps in a lot of these PSUs, including Corsair, Coolermaster and so on. In some instances (Cooler Master MWE-series v2) there is space to install a larger diameter, higher-spec'ed...

Re: Enermax Liberty ECO 400W [ELT400AWT] - from scraped to serviced

Panasonic FC is/was available in 470uF/25v/8mm, if you still trust it - should be fine for a linear regulator. Even better is NCC KZE in 470uF/25v/8mm, which I stockpiled some 8-9 years ago,...

Re: Asistance required on troubleshooting Corsair CX500

Thanks - I'm in a 220-240 VAC region. As noted earlier, +5Vsb is working now, just the main converter doesn't start. I'm OK even if it delivers 50% power reliably, so will take a look at your...

Re: Asistance required on troubleshooting Corsair CX500

Same issue - Corsair CX500 with the primary Panasonic 220uF/400v blown. I pulled it, removed the APFC heatsink and checked the 2 MOSFETs (13N50P - 13A, 500v) and the rectifier (STTH8S06D - 8A, 600V)....

Re: <taps> So long, Pentium III, Athlon XP, and older...

Yup, 2nd- and 3rd-gen dual-core branded SFFs and minitowers can be had for the price range mentioned by Televizora - about $50 or lower used. If you're willing to do some assembly/mobo/HDD swaps...

Re: <taps> So long, Pentium III, Athlon XP, and older...

While I do have legacy systems with PIIIs in sporadic use, they're all Coppermine or Tualatin (more recent than Katmai). I have Athlon 32 T'bird and Thoroughbred XP boxes, but running older OSes (RH9...

Re: The longest you've ever used a single system?

It doesn't quite count as a system in continuous use, since I haven't used the board for some ~15 years, but I pulled out a DFI AM33-EC Socket-A mobo from my stash, plugged in a T-bird 1.4 GHz (not...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

Vaguely unrelated - just found an Ltec 120uF/400V on the primary side of a multiple-voltage universal laptop adapter that had leaked from one lead, and corroded the lead completely, causing it to...

Re: HiPro HP-P3017F3 rev:03 [Dell H057N] - capacitor repair

Yup, same PPFC series - mine were probably an intermediate series that used the sawblade-type heatsinks from the 300W units, but are otherwise very similar. The only downside today is that there's no...

Re: HiPro HP-P3017F3 rev:03 [Dell H057N] - capacitor repair

The old HiPro 250W PPFC units for Dell were rock solid, once their Asiacon and similar caps were recapped. I have a few running fine after ~15-17 years. One key cap is a primary side 47uF or 100uF...

Re: Troubleshooting Corsair VS450

I don't have the schematics of the VS450, but I have a slightly flaky CX430 that tuns off suddenly at times.

Is there a Weltrend WTxxxx chip as the supervisory/monitoring IC on the secondary side?...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

Thanks for the datasheet - I now have to locate all the Hi-Pros and similar that I had recapped then and replace the HFEs with NCC KY/KZE (of which I only have 2200uF/16, which should suffice). I...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

It may have been noted earlier here - Panasonic HFE (discontinued) also leaks dark brown electrolytic from the bung, along with some out-gassed bubbles/froth. It's older than FC (which was suggested...
