Re: Old analog Power Supply needs your advice

ah... that picture has the heatsink, though still seems kind of small for the design.

Re: Old analog Power Supply needs your advice

dang where's the heatsink for that 0-30V 2mA-3A regulator... must need a huge heatsink...?

Re: Old analog Power Supply needs your advice

You don't want to run the guts you have as-is, no matter if you figure it out or not -- if the adjustment actually works, its regulation is no good no matter what due to what was discussed prior....

Re: Old analog Power Supply needs your advice

There's not enough components on it to have good regulation.
Looking at the connectivity on the board, I'm not sure the designer knew what he/she was doing. At most it'd be an acceptable (though...

Re: Old analog Power Supply needs your advice

I'd vote get rid of PCB or salvage it for parts. Current design on it is awful and not going to get you very far -- no regulation at all I don't think. Adjustability, yes...

Re: "Consumer" "Cloud" storage for Windows/MacOS...

That's what I figured - have to use manufacturer website (seems most "home" services do this because of NAT and dynamic IP problems)... but is it only presented as a web interface to access your...

That would contradict the premise of https://owncloud.com/ ...

"Consumer" "Cloud" storage for Windows/MacOS...

How are "consumer" home "cloud" devices set up?

I don't know if I can call them "NAS" or whatnot, definitely not simple USB storage...

Can you access them from the internet? How does it do...

Re: Motherboard diagnostic LED states

I used to have an old P4 board (MSI branded ATX, desktop board) that had 4 diagnostic LEDs on the back panel that counted from 0 (all off) to 15 (all on) as it went through POST, each meaning...

Re: Converting +/- 5v to a Usable Hz Signal

Sounds like you need someone to do it for you, I think we've given all the clues we can give without having access to the actual hardware... This won't be a "buy this connect that" solution.

Re: Converting +/- 5v to a Usable Hz Signal

You can't fix designs you don't have information to fix... and since the main reason for having the fan on is to cool it, just cool it like a CPU fan be damned with the noise or whatever issue those...

Re: Converting +/- 5v to a Usable Hz Signal

I'd say don't bother, feed it 100% duty cycle and bang/bang the control with hysteresis if desired. That's how it's done in cheap cars that mere mortals drive...

Re: laptop vs desktop rust spinner longevity

If someone's using a laptop on their lap then I don't care how well you can keep your lap still, there will be movement. Not to also mention laptops tend to get hotter than desktop PCs (usually).

Do these drives (scorpio blue, rosewell, momentus) last longer if they weren't in laptop situations?

None of my laptop drives (excluding so far: SSDs but offtopic) last long, but they were all in...

Re: laptop vs desktop rust spinner longevity

anyone used a lot of 2.5" drives in their desktop/server machines?

Wonder because I'd think 2.5" drives need to be made at higher tolerances but yes, due to size, the drives are lighter and thus...

Or you can just move them closer/farther apart :D (which unfortunately is very nonlinear and capacitance drops very fast as you move farther apart, making frequency even harder to tune.)

The...

hmm...also curious what happens if they get overheated or overvoltaged. Unlike a "wet" capacitor, they don't have a liquid to boil off so I can't extrapolate a regular aluminum wet capacitor over. ...
