touch your probes together, your probably seeing the resistor + losses in your probes/cables
most meters have a .2-.4 ohm loss in the cables

if all 3 pins are shorted then it may have damaged the circuit connected to the gate pin

i suspect the broken "coil" is the rfi transponder and contains the chip in the center.

if you use a single "logic level" fet with a 2v gate voltage, the microcontroller can hard shift the gatepin from 5v to gnd - that will switch the fet much faster than using a pullup resistor or a...

the tl866 comes with the isp cable, but not all chips can be flashed on the board - it depends on the actual board.
i wouldnt know about clips, i have a generic $2 chinese one - it does it's job.

i had(still have) some of those, they work well with crt's that run at 120Hz or better - preferably interlaced.
if the refresh is any lower they flicker like a bastard and give you a headache....
