Re: kemet

Kemet electrolytics and polymers are low-tier Chinese products and should be avoided.

Their polymer caps are priced very competitively - but there's a reason for that. They are not on par with...

Re: Nichicon PC(M) replacement

Here is a datasheet for Nichicon PC...

If you want to be strict about it, you could use an automotive-grade cap like RX30 or similar.

Re: Wiring ethernet in new office

I've had good results with the BCM4708 but not the BCM4709.

I think Broadcom is playing games with the engineering of the die bumps or the underfill, but for whatever reason, the BCM4709 just...

Re: Infamous Rubycon MFZ... Current recommended replacements???

I managed to buy a small quantity of Nichicon HZ 6.3v 3300uF for old jobs, but you don't need to use Nichicon HZ.

You can use something like this instead:...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

LXA, LXV and LXF are obsolete though, no?

Elna is difficult to get, neither Mouser, Digikey or Newark/Farnell stock them, unless things have changed.

Look at the datasheet for PX. PX is a...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

So PL and PR (obsolete) and PS/PM are to be avoided in that case...

So since FC is out of the picture, we're left with PW and LXY/LXZ for good, enduring non-aqueous parts...

I'm going back on...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I disagree with this characterization. I think SMG uses better materials than KMG. I believe they do better in the long term (at standard temperatures that is).

The reason for my logic is that...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I think SMG is overall superior to KMG for general purpose applications. True, SMG is 85c and KMG is 105c, but IIRC, SMG is 2000h @ 85c while KMG is 1000h @ 105c. I use SMG in wall warts where I...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I'm still in touch with Joe on occasion. You can still reach him through the Chinese apps. Last I spoke with him he said he could still get Samxon but I think I decided to go with local...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

Our forum member Behemot (https://badcaps.net/forum/member.php?u=15285) sells custom made UCC KZN 16V 3300uF capacitors which are 10mm and quite tall and I highy recommend them.

He sells them...

Re: [HOWTO] Fix/Repair "Chassis Intruded Fatal Error System Halted" on Asus P5QL

It's been some time, finally making some progress with old projects here...

I found the diode, it tests fine. It comes after a resistor marked 01B (1Kohm) which tests fine. There is a 0.2V...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

Huh, PM? PW is supposed to be a miniaturized analog of PM.... That's not very reassuring. Don't they both use the same non-aqueous electrolyte?

It would be nice to use only LXZ, but NCC caps...

Re: Very old Sanyo OS-CONs. Safe to use?

I would certainly not use old OS-CON caps. They do in fact deteriorate. Just open it up and see for yourself. The polymer dielectric should be a moist, glossy black but you will often find in old...

Re: Panasonic FC series - leaking? quality gone?

A bit late to the conversation, but the obvious question would be about Nichicon's FC equivalent which is PW.

Very informative and constructive post Per! Just to make a small correction the cap you reference is Kemet, not EPCOS.

I guess the only real...

Just a heads up...

Newer PSUs will (or should?) come with a four wire SATA power connector instead of the usual 5.

Pin 3, which was formerly used for 3.3V is now being used to signal power...

I think the highest 3xxx AGP series card is faster than the 4670.

The shorter connectors with the fine pitch are also common in LCDs, and are often used as interconnects. I reckon a USB3 header cable would also be suitable.

You can also either take the leads...

Re: [HOWTO] Fix/Repair "Chassis Intruded Fatal Error System Halted" on Asus P5QL

I have a P5K-E that basically ignores the CMOS battery... If power is disconnected from the system completely, it loses all the BIOS settings. Is this also because of a weak transistor?

Thanks
