    Class 2 Transformer 12 volt @ 800 milliamperes what a lie

This is the first time I have seen this crap before in this kind-a data plate for a power supply when you see the word “transformer” when it says 12 volts @ 800 milliamperes that the voltage might be a few volts over the rating on the data plate but no the weight of this power supply made me wonder if it is a transformer type of power supply so I open it up to find out that it is a switching power supply and it is not 12 volts output but 14.4 volts really

This power supply is a switching power supply and the data plate is completely wrong it 14.4 volts I would doubt the size of it could put out 800 milliamperes in the first place but I could be completely wrong with this

What do people think of this data plate information that is provided on this power supply

Can anyone guess what device this power supply is in and the first guess might be wrong

What do you do you people think about the quality of this switching power supply would it be safe to use for charging a small 12 volt battery pack this is a hint about what type of device this charger is in

it can probably do it, i'v seen 2A 5v transformers that size.
and the isolation and seperation look good too.

    probably crap caps though

switching power supplies have transformers in them so it's not completely wrong...

If this PSU was for a lead acid battery, that 14.4V could be helpful too. The weird thing is that this thing looks like it's open loop, so it has poor regulation, and probably only has watt limiting. Might be fine for charging lead acid batteries.

You are correct about what this charger was in

But do you think that it would over charge a 17 amp hour battery

What do you think the lowest amp hour battery it could charge with out overcharging it

You are correct about the fact that they have a type of transformer in them but —> the majority of time the data plate does not say transformer on it for a switching power supply and most of the time it just has the voltage output and the current capability and sometimes it says switching power supply on the data plate

This is the reason I said that it was a lie

Depends on its current/watt limiting. If it's truly 800mA @ 12V then I'd probably would not charge anything smaller than 8Ah or so for C/10 - need to make sure it's disconnected after it's fully charged. 17Ah batteries should be fine.

Since it charges to 14.4V - you should only charge batteries that are used for cyclic use, do not use as a float or standby charger.

is that the charger though, or a supply for a seperate charging unit?

It goes to a display/controller however the controller does not control the charging voltage at all
