Default Re: Rebuilding an Li-Ion Tool Battery with Li-Po Pouch Cells (Ryobi P189)

Okay, but does soldering onto 18650 cells damage them, as I remember hearing that some time ago, which was one of my main reasons for looking at these pouch cells, since I wouldn't need to buy a whole extra (presumably expensive) tool for connecting them together, I do have a fair number of (working/tested) salvaged 18650 batteries, but pretty much all of them have been salvaged from laptop packs, which means they aren't suitable for this application.

When it comes to batteries from AliExpress, isn't there the possibility that someone can take a generic no-name cell and put some heat shrink on it to make it look like a better brand? And then sell it as such.
