    Chip of the year data: 2002, 2003, 2005, 2012

    This thread is for that hard to find information on those chips marked with a year. They are typically used in "no name" brands such as Raptor, Allied, and others made mostly by Leadman.

    I was watching a thread .....a member was repairing a power supply with a chip marked 2005. I have looked at those power supplies I have and found chips with the following years: 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2012. I have found that the 2002 and 2003 are interchangeable. The 2005 and 2012 are interchangeable. But the 2003 and 2005 are not interchangeable. The difference is in the function of pins 1 and 6.

    In the 2002 and 2003, pin 1 is Vdd power, and pin 6 is the 12 volt rail voltage monitor. In the 2005 and 2012, the pin 6 is changed to Power_good input, and pin 1 now has a dual finction of Vdd and 12 volt rail voltage monitor. This dual function works identical to the TMS7510 supervisory chip.

    I am including a pdf chart showing the pin outs for these four chips. Also a datasheet for the ATX-2005. Be careful, the ATX-2005 datasheet matches the 2002 and 2003, but is incorrect for the 2005. It is also possible that there are two versions of the 2005 chip.

      I didn't miss it, I was saving it for later. The 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2012 chips are all 16 pin DIP chips. The 2008 is a 20 pin chip. I found one in a MSI (Solytech) SL-8460 BTX power supply. Here is the drawing showing the pin out for the 2008 and how it is hooked up in an actual power supply.

        I've always been curious about these mysterious chips. Thank you very much everell! I'm glad I've kept a few 2005Z chips now from scrapped Allied power supplies

            I still have 2005 chip scrapped from my psu last year. this help much to know 2012 chip interchangeable with 2005 chip. thank you.

              Ya, I have found two types of 2005 Chips . One match with AT2005B and Another Match with ATX2005-2005Z . AT2005B and ATX2005-2005Z have different PIN Configuration . Most of the manufacture uses ATX2005-2005Z chip more than AT2005B . I have found two times AT2005B chip only . I have uploaded both datasheet of AT2005B and ATX2005-2005Z chips .

                  Hi everell, good to see you are still alive.

                  I believe those chips marked with a year are used solely in power supplies manufactured by Deer/Solytech. I don't know if they are a proprietary design by them or simply a commercial chip that they put their name on.

                    Well, older Deer power supplies have a DR0183, which appears to be yet another variant of the 494 and 7500 chips, possibly just with different pinouts. I wonder how similar or different the DR0183 is from those "year" chips.

                    Yes
                    Leadman/PowMax usually use 7500 or 494 for their half-bridge designs, and 384* for their flyback/single transistor forward designs.

                      Chip of the year series has pwm and supervisory circuits in one integrated circuit package. The 494 and 7500 are pwm chip only and does not include supervisory functions. The 494 and 7500 designs include 7510 chip, 229 chip, or discrete transistor circuitry for supervisory functions. The chip of the year series is a money saver.

                        Gentlemen, what's a suitable replacement for the "chip of the year" from another manufacturer? Or aren't there any?

                        I broke up an Octigen 400w the other day, pics somewhere soon, but this contains a 16-pin SDC2921 and a 8-pin "JD3301D 12M04" <- not sure about the last one, but the former has a datasheet.



                        Any use to anyone?

                          SDC2921 seems to be a very close cousin to the AT2005B. Different pin out, so definitely not directly "drop-in" compatible, but with some rewiring and a few simple modifications in the circuit, it may work fine. For example, pin 8 on the AT2005B sets the oscillation of the chip with an external capacitor, whereas for the SDC2921, the oscillation is set with a resistor on pin 6.
                          Also, SDC2921 max requency is 70 KHz, whereas AT2005B is only 60 KHz..

                          Other than that, the internal reference voltages in the chip appear to be all the same. SDC2921 has SS (Soft Start) set by pin 10, but I believe pin 12 on the AT2005B has the same function.

                          Don't confuse the AT2005B with the ATX2005. though - that looks like a different animal that may not be compatible at all (or at least not without some "creative" modding).

                          Not sure about the JD3301D 12M04. Haven't searched for it yet.

                          **EDIT**
                          Appears the JD3301D is some kind of SMPS PWM-FET IC (i.e. similar to those TNY and Ice chips used for auxiliary power). So perhaps it's for the 5VSB? Is it on the primary or secondary side? If on the primary, it should be for the 5VSB.

                              If the datasheet lists the same pin functions for both chips, then probably yes, it would work.
