    Sharp LC-40LE810UN question

I have picked up last night this TV which seems completely dead, no LED light at all.
The TV has some metal parts rusted and the back cover has a lot of white mess on it. By the way the back it's metal(!).
This TV is an LED thin TV.
I had very little time to look at it, I have just checked a couple of components, like fuses, rectifier, main capacitors and such. They all seem fine.
I have found a component which I can't identify, it looks like a glass fuse, but I'm not sure, I can't get continuity on it.
What do you think, what is it?
This picture is from shopjimmy, it's not mine.
Later today I will take some pictures.
I have a feeling that it's a water damaged TV.

It's going to the chassy ground through that gold circle capacitor.

Surge suppressor, spark gap type. Very nice, those are expensive parts, good to see that Sharp/Delta include one.

        Thank you.
How can I check it out if it's good or not?

It will almost never fail. If it does, it will have exploded.

Check all fuses that you can see & check for approx 165V across the large caps on the right hand side of the power board.

Any sign of corrosion on the backside of the board? You should have continuity from each one of the fuse to each one of the bridge with the '~' on it (one fuse will go to the ~, and another fuse will go to another ~ if one fuse is for HOT, and another fuse for Neutral ). Is there a main power switch somewhere since I do not see relay on the board.

It's only a sensor style switch. The rest I will have to check when I'm actually in front of the TV. I'm "working" now.

This type of PS should have 165V/398V-when on?

                    Re: Sharp LC-40LE810UN question

Are the two large caps laying on their sides rated at 450VDC, if it is, this set has PFC circuit, there is a large transformer on the top right of the board, that may be the PFC choke.

Then yes, they should have around 400V on them when TV is on. The TV without PFC in the US will use 250~350V cap since they are cheaper.

I had a couple minutes and I have measured the voltage across the two capacitors and there is a 161.5V. On the PD connector all pins measure 0V.
Tomorrow I will take some pictures with my board.

OK, this is good, the problem is probably on the PSU. Check for 5VSTBY.

I will, but since none of the LEDs is turning on, then I assume that there is no 5V.

Bad assumption. I've had a Toshiba TV with a perfectly functional power supply, but it was still dead (no LED, no sign of life at all) - it turned out to be a failed 2.5V regulator on the video board.

                                      My bad.
Which one do you think it is? The LB-8 STB?
I haven't had time to measure the LB connector, but on the PD there is no voltage present on any of the pins.

You need to check all pins for any voltage. It looks like this TV doesn't use a standby supply, just one main supply. So, if the main supply is dead, you need to look there for the fault.
