Buy a Agilent U1242A or Fluke 179 DMM?

Need a new (used) DMM and there are two in the area for resonable prices.

The Agilent U1242A is 63 GBP (about 80 USD)

The Fluke 179 is 55 GBP (roughly $68.00)

    Kinda leaning towards the Agilent.

Anyone think that is a bad idea?

I would agree with the other two that you should have more than one meter so you would have something to compare to if you question the results that you are getting

Very nice meter and the manual is very complete and great in details and descriptions

Well, didn't actually get the Agilent as the case wasn't as shown in the photos The rubber casing and control knob had perished too much for my liking and the display was bouncing around all of over the place.
The ohms for example were only stable and zero once the leads were shorted, with the fella telling me it was designed that way... mmm?

The Fluke 179 fella hasn't got back to me either, although I did pick up two vintage DMM's yesterday for 15 Dollars/20 quid for the pair.
A bonkers looking Keithley 167 with a built-in probe which houses the display, and a Fluke 8600A with various components missing from inside.

I may well start a new thread following the repair of the Fluke

it could have been bad leads or dirty sockets,
but the case obviously got exposed to oil.
i would have offered him 25 and told him to look at the cost of a shell!

I'm repairing three old American-made multimeters, but I might have maxxed out at having 10 lol I've got no Flukes, just HP, Beckman, Wavetek.
I hate Taiwan-built multimeters, either they blow up easy or are just plain junky. So I prefer vintage gear. Finding parts is the challenge.

You think it is 'possible' to buy a replacement shell?

I saw a broken one selling for $90 but that is silly just for the case...
