    Re: Possible to run Win7 on a Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15IKB, i3 gen8 & UHD 620

I just looked at all of the .infs for this model (this model has drivers for alps, synapitics and elan). It looks like they're all classed under HID. Look at your human interface devices and see if one has a device string that starts with one of the following:

    HID\VEN_ELAN (this is ELAN)
HID\AUI(four hex characters) this is ALPS
    HID\SYNA(number) this is synapitics

I think a service is required for this crap to work

Weird. You might need some kind of hardware inventory analyser.

One comes with Windows. Win+r and run msinfo32. Look under Components, and Input or possibly Problem Devices and see what you find.

RWEverything access hardware directly. Under SMBios there usually are a Built-in pointing device entry. Anything making any sense?

Otherwise you might want to try some other utility. A few like HWinfo and Sandra I've used before, but not for some time now. I don't remember any particulars of them any more.

If you got UBCD on a stick, some of the system utils might reveal something.

At worst, you might have to reinstall W10 to see how it handle the hardware, and if the touchpad works at all. Do you know for a fact that the touchpad is not faulty?

Edit: Does automatic driver update work for you?

have you tried Snappy Driver Installer

            https://sdi-tool.org/download/

This has worked for me on both new and old hardware

Just a follow-up to this thread....

I never found any HWID's that revealed any touchpad. When the logitech receiver was unplugged, there were no HID's either. The keyboard (which works fine) shows as a PS2. When I told the owner about the touchpad issue, he told me he didn't give a f*ck....it didn't work with 10 either, and he uses a mouse with his laptop anyway.....so I wrapped this one up and returned it to him.

After him telling me it never worked in the first place, I'm just going to conclude that the touchpad was simply defective.
