    Gigabyte GA-z68xp-ud3p no power

    Hi folks:

I have this motherboard GA-z68xp-ud3p. I know my brother connected it and he said to me "smoke came from the unit" afer one day of functioning. No idea from where the smoke came. I supposed it was from the PSU but not clear. Well fact is I have a working CPU and working RAM. New PSU. I asked them to send me the combo board + CPU + RAM. I live in another country separated from my family. Well fact is motherboard doesn't turns on. Not even this new PSU turns on the fan. I suppose there are two options. Or the MB has some short or the "turn on" signal is not arriving to the PSU. Fans do nt try to start nothing. I measured 3.3 volts in the power on pins. Those where the ON button is connected. I also feel some electricity in the shields when I touch them. however nothing starts. I removed the battery for a long while to see if CMOS gets cleared. Still this CR2032 has 3.0 volts as measured by the meter. I tried to see with continuity testing between ground and all voltages from the 24 pins connector. Nothing no short. I also measured th 12 volts CPU 8 pins connector, nothing, no short. No idea on what could be wrong with this damn thing. Totally ran out of ideas. Looking for some enlightenment. Nothing looks burned in the board and doesn't smells burned at all. All looks by view quite normal. CPU and RAM is ok as tested in another motherboard.

    Re: Gigabyte GA-z68xp-ud3p no power

UPDATE: I managed to make it start. Sometimes it even boots sometimes it doesn't. I attached a dignostics card and sometimes it reports "bad signal check CPU block" sometimes I see the BIOS messages appearing in the dignostics card (I don't have a video card). I suppose it is the CPU VRM failing or something. Sometimes it goes back to not even power on. If I disconnect the 20+4 pins and attach a connector with a jumper that came this PSU with but leave the 12 V CPU lines connected the PSU starts. It is an EVGA 600 Watts PSU. This makes me believe it is a bad capacitor somewhere failing randomly. Now the big question... wich one? It would be quite a drama to just desolder them all and test them. They all seem ok but they are not bulged or anything. They look like high quality capacitors. Those covered in metal. But this looks very much like bad caps symptom. Any ideas?

Looks like a small solid cap. I saw it was leaking down there. I already purchased some on ebay ultralow esr same capacity voltage rating. Let's see what happens cause this one is not an experiment is an expensive board.

Laptop is HP Envy x360 13-bf0013dx, hp website link, it's an i7-1250U with 8 gig onboard ram.
        Platform: ipa32 la-m024p rev 1b

Originally you'd plug power supply into it and it would take up to 1.2 amps and then drop to 200 milliamps and then go back up again to 1.2, staying all the while at 5 volts. Pressing power button would results in power LED blinking amber 3 times. 3.3 volt rail, 5.1 volt rail present, main power rail 8.8 volts. Power button test pads near EC chip 2.7 volts.

I found a short on the other side:

        Fishing bite alarm drains battery
        by Mcfeetroy
Good day to all. The bite alarm drains 9-volt Krona batteries. Current consumption when switched on is about 50 mA. I wiped the board from oxides, I will attach a photo (on the board there is a j3y transistor and a 7533 stabilizer, the microcircuit is erased = (the 3.3-volt stabilizer heats up weakly. I replaced it, nothing changed. I unsoldered the microcircuit, the consumption disappeared. The resistance on the pins of the unsoldered microcircuit from the point clockwise is more than 2 megaohms, the 11th leg is presumably ground. I warmed up the microcircuit, the consumption does not change....

GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2 - Stuck at Debug Code C2 - don't like Patriot Viper Steel RAM but works with G.SKILL
        by DynaxSC
        Hi,

I discovered a strange behaviour of GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2 board.

        General test conditions:
        - Tested with Core i5 6500 and Core I7 6700K - no difference
        - Default BIOS settings, but tried also altering several memory setting - does not change anything

        What is wrong:

With BIOS F1 and F2 the board normally POST's and boots to Windows 11 with 2 x Patriot Viper Steel PVS416G440C9K RAM (4400MHZ, Samsung B-Die chips)

When BIOS upgraded to anything above F2 (ie. F20-F27b) the board POST stucks after 3 Debug Codes on Code C2

        Hi all,
this unit comes from a samsumg LCD TV LE32C530F1W which stopped working after making a strong noise like something was exploded inside of it.
I opened it and found that fuse FP801S was blown, capacitor CP814 was completely disintegrated and MOSFET QP801S was shorted.
I replaced all of them and instead of the fuse I connected a 100 Watt bulb. Then, without connecting it to other TV boards, I switched it on, but the bulb begun to blink.
I thought that maybe the bulb was somehow interfering with the normal operation of the power supply, so I replaced it with a fuse,...
