I haven't even gotten to oppening it, let alone hacking it. But it looks like it is going to stay without MIN/MAX function. For the price it is good anyway.

to use min/max on a meter you first need to enable manual ranging - not autoranging.
maybe that's the issue?

That seems to happen automatically on another Uni-T I've got that has MIN/MAX out of the box. I'm not sure the same happens if it's not meant to have the MIN/MAX feature and you're trying to patch the button in.

if i had a spare meter with that chip i'd experiment with adding all the buttons, but i gave my spare aneng to a friend.
