 Hello everyone,

I need help with a Dell Latitude 5490.- Service Tag: 7STLJR2
- CPU: i5-8350U

Symptoms: The laptop works, but it has a very long POST time (approx. 1 minute to show the Dell logo). The OS logs show many AER (Advanced Error Reporting) recoverable errors related to the PCI bus.

All standard BIOS update methods (from Windows, Linux fwupd, or USB) fail silently. The laptop just reboots without applying the update and shows no errors. It remains on the old BIOS version, 1.13.0.

What I've tried: I used a programmer to dump the BIOS from the 16MB chip (GD25B128CSIG). When I flash a clean .bin extracted from the latest official Dell update (version 1.41.0), the laptop is completely dead (no power, no lights, no fan).

Restoring my original backup dump brings the laptop back to its previous state (slow POST, but it boots and works). This confirms the programming process is correct and the issue is with the BIOS file itself.

Could someone please help me build a working BIOS file? I need to transfer my machine-specific data (Service Tag, Intel Ethernet MAC address, etc.) from my backup to a clean BIOS region from the new update.

I have attached my original backup dump.
Thank you in advance for your help!Attached FilesComment

Thank you for the modified file.

I have erased the chip and written your version, but it seems there's an issue.

When I connect the AC adapter, the laptop powers on by itself. Three LEDs light up (Power button, Caps Lock, and the front status LED). The fans start spinning, but nothing else happens. The screen remains completely black and the system does not POST.

The front status LED is blinking, sometimes in amber/orange.Comment

My apologies for the confusion, I have a crucial update.

I just discovered that the laptop boots perfectly fine on battery power alone. The previous issue I described (auto-power-on, black screen) only occurs when the AC adapter is connected.

After booting into the OS on battery, I ran the official Dell BIOS update, and it is currently in the process of updating successfully.

It seems the main corruption is fixed. Sorry for the misleading previous post!Comment

			by YOUCEF4787Hello everyone,
I'm working on a Dell Latitude 5490 with a LA-F401P motherboard that has a very peculiar issue, and I would appreciate your insights.
 Initial Problem:
The laptop was completely dead, no signs of life, no power LED.
 Action Taken:
I flashed the main BIOS chip with a clean dump. This brought the machine back to life, but with a strange limitation.
Current Situation & The Main Issue:
The laptop now works perfectly when powered through the USB-C port. It charges the battery, powers on, boots into the OS, and functions 100% correctly....

3 amber 3 white blinks. Dell website sais it's problem "bios recovery" and suggested solution "recovery image not found"

I try plugging charger while pressing ctrl+esc, machine turns on, nothing and after 20 seconds it gives 3 amber 3 white blinks again.

by SathsulSo, i kinda spend significant ammount of the last couple of days trying to flash a new bios, and or unlocking the current bios password with little to no results.
The whole thing started with it being the 8fc8 bios, i found the tools to unlock that but i needed a bios dump. So i pursued that, im at a point where i dessoudered the chip, and succesfully soudered it to the ch341, dumped whatever was on it.
However, the tools supposed to unlock the 8fc8 say that there is no 8fc8 hex inside. And when i followed diffrent tutorials to just flash a new bios onto the chip i got stuck on the...-
