macOS Big SUR changed my life

Happy to report since owning my 2018 mac mini since launch that with the BIG SUR update the startup chime is back, it even has more bass to it then the older startup chimes.

I thought they did away with the startup chime.... I have some old iMac G5's here, the startup chime is my favorite part.....when I heard it, I always knew the recap was successful!

They did only on the 2016 up Macs but the old 2017 carry over air still had it, now its enabled again for all macs but you can disable it in the sound control panel.

Yup my iMac G5 is still in the garage haven't booted it up in about 4 years and I did recap it with a kit bought from you back in 2011! i'll have to try and fire it up again.

if you watched the video, apple was already doing it - possibly for years.
the update just puts a stop to you blocking it.

IMO apple turned to the darkside when they left Motorola and started using Intel.
and that's another thing, all these intel based machines have the ME filth in them - that's as bad as it could get.
the ME is a seperate microcontroller that can acess your harddrives, ram and networking even in sleepmode.

maybe that's why the latest windows versions dont like to do a proper shutdown - just a thought!!

at least m$ has ways to stop or severely halt telemetry collection

I don't believe there is any way to disable it in mos

Worse, is when you have a pre-10th-gen Core i-series processor and the motherboard maker refused to give a UEFI BIOS update to include the latest update to Intel CSME. (converged security and management engine) (for the very late versions of the ME)

Some people are left in the cold, because the computer makers refused to offer a BIOS with an updated CSME for PCs with a 9th-gen Core i series and earlier!

                            should have chosen AMD then.

Both of my main systems are Ryzens.

The second one is a Ryzen 5 2600 on an AsRock A320M/ac motherboard.

I have a 2014 macbook air but so far I think i'll stay away from the update with my older machines, the 2018 mini was crashing for no reason with 10.14.6 mojave so updating to big sur ive had no more crashes, traded my privacy for stability i guess, sad that it crashed more then my windows machines....

Macbook A1398 - no startup chime, no boot, but have fans and CPU warm

Macbook A1398 - had repeating loop of startup chime with no actual boot. Just startup chime, then restart, start up chime, then restart, etc. I pulled the battery and cleared BIOS. It will now power up, fans on, CPU warming, but no startup chime and no boot. I reflashed the BIOS chip but the same thing happening. Where should I go from here?

Yet another 19" TV here in the maintenance shop. This one belongs to my 95 year old mom so I'd really like to get it fixed for her.

Samsung UN19F4000AF. Back home for a week, I found this TV in her master bathroom unplugged and not connected to anything. Would start to power up and make about half of the Samsung startup chime, then shut back down.
Brought it back home with me but after having a quick look it no longer tries to start up and does not have the red LED lit in the IR receiver/switch thing.

Power supply is good, tested it on an exact same...

Hi guys i have my personal MacBook Pro 2015 820-00165 board that was working fine for more than a year and one day stopped working on my original Magsafe charger. It was turning on with my bench power supply. Opened it up and while diagnosing that somehow i ended up with a shorted smc.The line which was shorted was SMC_PM_G2_EN. I removed the SMC and short was gone. So all I had was another working donor board 820-3435 which i used to program it's SMC to 820-00165 using the SMCTOOL By MuertoGB.Took that SMC and use it on my 820-00165 board .And my board started working again. PPBUS_G3H 8.56V....

Zombie Samsung UN55NU6900F dead / no standby voltage - randomly came to life after hours of troubleshooting then died
                                          by tvguy12012012120
This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

                                          Hi All.

Sorry ahead of time for the text wall. This is a strange problem and I have tried to explain it as best I can. I realise this is a hardware forum (mostly), but I am still not sure if this is even a hardware fault! I am hoping that someone more knowledgeable than me in the area of understanding installation logs, or someone that has had a similar issue in the past may have some ideas of what might be causing this.

                                          The issue:
Unable to do a clean install of any macOS versions supported for this model, even after fully erasing and formatting the internal SSD,...
