Peta, ofcourse some advertising would always be helpful to making this a success.... This forum has existed since October 6th 2003, online the first time at about 9:00PM CST. Being a couple days old, atleast there's traffic...

I don't know if this forum will be a huge success or not, I created it out of requests from viewers, so we'll see how many actually join... If it takes off, I'll be tickled pink!! If it flops, I'll simply remove it.

                A little about me?!?

HMMM I'll give a little info... I've been in the electronics field since 1991, with experience ranging from TV/VCR repair all the way to industrial electronics for a very large and well known manufacturer. I started in computers in 1994, just for a change and something I thought would be more challenging.... First of all, in the computer field, I AM NOT a number cruncher (programmer) YUK!!!!! I'm a hardware/network guy... I can install any OS, repair and make it work, but sitting and typing code is more boring than watching flies mate!! So I stick to hardware!! I get the 'thrill' from coming up with cures for problems, creative and USEFUL mods (this DOES NOT include neon lights and corny batman windows in my cases)...

Before the VP6 was around, Abit's poster child was the BP6, dual celeron board... Being one of the pioneers to run dual Coppermines in my BP6 was quite a thrill... Then came the VP6, and the dreaded crap cap problem... Thus was born PROJECT:VP6, which is over a year old... It can be viewed at www.kabalsrealm.com/systems/projects/vp6/. That single article ultimately led to badcaps.net and this forum... I was shocked at the publicity it drew...

                A little inside info?!?
Well, age?! I'll say late 20's and that's close enough... I enjoy dealing with the computers, all of this is just a hobby these days, so if it did flop, it's no loss... I'm also a car nut... (300ZX!!!)... I also enjoy flying immencely, although, no I don't own an airplane... YET!!! Maybe if I sell off all this computer junk, I could afford one... HEH I own 3 domain names, and host sites for a few friends on this array... Of course they pay me nothing... HMMM Ohh well... Money isn't all... That's about all I think needs to be revealed... If there's something you really need to know about me, ask... The answer all depends on the question you asked...

                Anyhow,
Peta, and everyone else that has joined, Welcome to the forums!! Bring some friends with ya!!
Hello everyone, I share with you a greeting from Argentina, my name is Gabriel, 44 years old, electronics apprentice, it's been 1 year that I wish and I'm still learning about electronics, to repair notebooks, and some cell phones, but I'm always looking for ways to be able to solve, I'm dedicated to photography and some CAD, but now here I try to work in repairs, I studied computer science for 2 years, (2004), and I got out, well, I hope I don't bore you, blessings and many fraternal greetings!

Hello, I'm from France, I own a dell xps 9550 which is begining to act funny (when I start the computer, it works fine, if I let it go a bit like 10 seconds or more, if I reboot I end up with my leds flashing 2 orange + 2 whites (says mainboard/bios failure) and nothing works... then if I let it wait for long enough, it boots fine again. Something builds up, like heat or some capacitor charges, and it has to return to zero/cool before the computer agrees to boot.

I came here looking for answers... found a link to the schematics of the mainboard, so I registered. Will try to understand some or part of it.

Otherwise I'm a software engineer, I have some basic hardware knowledge from when I was young, and some stuffs to solder things and analyse signals...

Hello! My name is Chris B. and I use the username of krisby, which is very clever of me, ha, ha! I am interested in all aspects of electronics, but I am a permanent beginner. My current project is upgrading my home solar power system, using recycled Li-ion cells for energy storage. I used to make simple battery charge controllers using Op-Amps as voltage comparators, but then I tried to make one using an Arduino Uno, but was not successful. Could have been a problem with the messy prototype set-up & breadboard. I shall try again. Good bye.

                                Hi,
My curious son tried to update BIOS and failed so laptop is not booting up.
And now being a hero dad, I am searching for a way to repair it by DIY.
It has opened a whole new world of knowledge for me about programming BIOS etc.
This forum looks awesome with lots of dedicated people who are willing to help and teach.

                                Thank you for adding me!

                                        Hi there!
New here, but this year I'm keeping myself sane by rediscovering old hobbies and thanks to a failing motherboard on a Chromebook... discovering new ones! After a lot of trial and error and going around the internet I found this post and wanted to explore further! Looks like there may be hope after all! (And hopefully less burning smells!)
                                        Thanks!
                                        -Chris

                                          Hi everyone!

I am jan and found this forum while searching how to repair TVs...at 3am...while not having a TV to repair at all.
Tinkering with broken devices has been a on-an-off hobby and I consider it fun to troubleshoot for hours, the joy of making things work again instead of throwing them away is worth it.

Nowadays I mostly do software stuff or managable repairs on smartphones for friends and family - with no guarantee of them ever working again. But by background is in electronics as I have visited a highschool specialized in electronics and technical informatics.
That is almost 10 years in the past now and I wanted to work with electronics again but do not feel knowledgable enough, so here I am
