Ideas for repairing or resoldering of Ribbon cable required

    Hi,
I am trying to repair this broken ribbon cable that was directly soldered to a gyroscope pcb. Any hints what can I do please? I was tempted to rewire with thin winding wire but am afraid that the added weight would affect the freely rotating gyro. FYI, this is a marine Auto Pilot unit.

If you have an unused spare or defected laptop cdrom , you can find inside plenty of those ribbon cables . Make a similar cut joint and solder it .

Managed to solder some single strands and jobs seems fine. Have applied a thin film of super glue on top to secure better the strands.

never use superglue - it evaporates into things when it warms up.

for the future, get a tube of UV cured pcb laquer.

Tks for posting this. Actually I have UV curated glue that I use to bond LED lenses for TV repairs but looks different from the one you posted.

the one i posted isnt glue, it's an insulating coating.

Is there a difference between colours or they're all the same, just different colours?

in theory ones in the blue/green will harden faster because the red/yellow end will partly block the UV light,
but really there is no difference - it's just so you can match the pcb colour.
i actually do the oposite and use green on red pcb's and red on green ones - so i can see later what i did

When an object looks red, it reflects red light... Everything else... It absorbs. On the other hand if it absorbs, then it takes it in... So ... Which way does it really work?

May all be moot because we can't see any reflected UV light anyway...

If the object is exposed to 'white / sun' light, then to the human eye yes.
For instance: what to an human eye is a red object is in fact everything but red, rather the opposite green (yellow+blue).

That are some known colors and materials known to reflect UV light...
In lack of a better method you can always use flies (flies will be more attracted to the color that reflects best UV light).
