Nice system (and setup!)

A few years back when I used to work at Microcenter (just as the 1st gen Ryzen started to come out), these were exactly the type of PCs we were asked to build by customers. So something like that hardware was a really nice system back then and still quite respectable today. Heck, the value of that 1080TI hasn't budged since then, thanks to the Crypto nutties.
As for the case - those Corsair 100R and 200R were probably my favorite to build. They are not amazing in terms of looks (just a black box, really), but very functional and offer a good balance between legacy and modern features. The best part about them was just how easy it was to do a build with one and tidy it up. So whenever a customer showed up with one of these cases in the cart and asked us techs to do the build (and if I got to do it), I knew it would be a good day at work.

I actually need to update mine..... This system has been my daily driver since it was built. It holds the record for longevity & use. However, it is no longer my 'daily driver'. The longevity clock is still running, as it is not retired or in any way relieved of duty, it was simply moved to my service bench; as its loaded with utilities I use every day for work.

This system is now my daily use system; which is my office system. If you don't want to read the thread, here's the rundown on it:

Supermicro X8DAI
2x Hexcore Westmere X5690 Xeon CPU's @ 3.46GHz
192gb Reg/ECC Memory
Nvidia Quadro M6000 24gb GPU
Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-H8IR (LSI 9260-8) 6gb/s SAS controller w/BBU
2x Sandisk Lightning 800gb SAS SSD's in a mirror
Server 2016 carved into a workstation OS
3x Dell U3011 30" 16:10 2560x1600 IPS displays

Yea, I know....not the latest or greatest....but for my needs, it's a beast!

Welp, slight update to the above machine, it's now running a R7 265 2GB GDDR5 from ASUS. Runs great although my Samsung has issues detecting the VGA/DVI-D adapter.

Dell Optiplex 990 SFF
i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz
16gb DDR3 RAM
Quadro K420 2gb GPU low-profile
For my home system, I'm still trailing edge for sure... The Dell 990 was just taken out of service because a fan was getting noisy (yea, I know)....and I had THIS FREEBIE from an EDU dropoff. I added 32gb RAM, a SB Audigy FX, and a 480gb Kingston A400 SSD; and it has replaced the Dell 990. The 990 is still intact, I'll wipe it and find it a new home.

This one is a HP ProDesk 600TWR. The EDU got rid of it because a Win10 update rendered it non-bootable.... The GPU was in it when I got it. I added the CPU, RAM, audio, and SSD. I stayed with S2K12_R2, it's still supported for atleast another year.....and even after that it won't become a cesspool of insecurities.... Anyway; Meet Topcat's new old home system, and the first system I've ever had that has broken the 4GHz threshold without overclocking!

Specs are:
HP ProDesk 600TWR
i7-4790K @ 4GHz
32gb PC3-12800 RAM
Quadro K2200 4gb GPU
Sound Blaster FX audio
480gb Kingston A400 SSD

All the rest is still the same....
Logitech G15 v1 Gaming Keyboard (bought new ~14yrs)
Logitech MX1000 laser mouse
Dell U3011 30" 16:10 2560x1600 display

I know this system is super-unexciting....but it is whisper quiet and when idle it's super efficient.....and I must confess, I do like the case...one of HP's better designs for their more modern stuff. Thicker metal and the look is not gaudy & obnoxious; as per their norm for the last decade.

If the HP system allows overclocking, you might be able to get that 4790K up to 4.6GHz stable.

An old marvel taking shape. Albeit slowly, but surely.

MB: ABIT BE6-II Rev1.0 (ATA66)
CPU: Pentium III SL4C8 on no-name slotket
GPU: Radeon 7500 64MB
RAM: 512MB
Sound: SB Live! Value CT4830 PCI
LAN: Realtek RTL8139C PCI
HDD: 80GB Excelstor Callisto/Jupiter + 80GB WD Caviar SE (inside ViPowER SuperRACK)
ODD: Hitachi/LG GSA-H12N DVDRW
OS: Windows ME (Excelstor) and XP SP2 (WD Caviar)
Case: Linkworld 3130E (or at least that's what the drive bays read)
PSU: HKC SZ-430PDR 430W (w/ PFC)

Upgrades I'm planning:
- populate HPT366 w/ more storage
- upgrade the PSU hopefully (I have an beefy Sun Pro that needs some finishing touches)
- hopefully snatch, clean up and install a GF4 Ti4600
- possibly upgrade the drives down the road if the latest main BIOS is LBA48 compatible (IIRC the 366 is NOT LBA48 compatible, but feel free to correct me.) to 160GB drives.

I suppose i will post the computing cluster that ive been tasked with building and maintaining at my new job since i left GM.

Its a defined purpose cluster that does computing work specifically with the SHA-256 algorithm.

Lol

Life changes been keeping me busy. New hobbies, new jobs, homesteading, finally found a mate, trying to work my way into shutting down my life here and pulling up roots to move to Tennessee.

Not everyone can say they have gone 180mph down a highway in TN.

Not everyone can say they scaled the steel structure of the first Edison powerplant west of the Mississippi.

Im just out here keeping myself busy and trying to make something of myself

And well, the way things are going in the tech industry, ive lost interest in most of the mainstream stuff. TVs aren't worth fixing. Phones are outdated by the time you break the screen. Hifi is just module lego or one huge monolith anymore.

Not much fun to tinker with anymore for me, sadly.
