Hp 17 dar62cmb6a0 board charging no power

    Dear all,
i have this mobo which has the following.
    19v rail is ok.
    3.3 and 5v are missing.
the 3.3 and 5v ic's are not short. pins 8,9,15,16 (marked as SW)do not have any output on either chip.
On page 35 of schematic ic NB670 (3v) PC223 on NB670BST side i get 4.85v BUT on the other side of capacitor i get nothing. capacitor is not shorted. i di-solder PL22 and still the same results.
    the same reading i got for NB669 (5v) PC234.

    Thanks

You will get output only when all the inputs and enable's are there and there is no short on output side.

So measure pin 1/6/12/13/11 of PU3 and post it here. Resistance on PL22 coil and pin6 of PU3??

DC jack glows solid white or is it blinking??

      Thanks for the reply mcplslg123,

on the mobo i do not see any IC pu3.
the ic's for 3.3 and 5v are PU9 and pU10. did you mean those!

the resistance of PL22 is 0.8OHMS.

The changer light is solid white.

      Thanks

Re: Hp 17 dar62cmb6a0 board charging no power

On PU9 & PU10 -> check the voltage of the EN (enable) pin # 13 on each. This is an active HIGH enable pin.

If the EN = '1' (logic high) then the regulator is being requested to turn ON.

ON pu9,pu10 ON PIN 13 S5_ON I HAVE 0V. I MEASURED ALSO ON SIO. BUT ON
BIOS I DO GET 3.3V,KEYBOARD CONNECTOR AND POWER BUTTON.
          I MEASURED PU9 AND I HAVE
          PIN 1 19V
          PIN 6 3.3V
          PIN 10 4.83V
          PIN 11 5V
          PIN 12 5V
          13 0V
MEASURING THE RESISTANCE ON CN12 POWER CONNECTOR BETWEEN BLACK AND RED I GET 2.5M OHMS. IS THAT CORRECT!

            1) check the resistance to ground of S5_ON signal line. Remove all power, meter in resistance scale to measure. If you see '1', change to the next higher scale on your meter.

With '0' on the S5_ON = EN, the regulators are instructed to remain OFF.

            2)
CN12 POWER CONNECTOR BETWEEN BLACK AND RED I GET 2.5M OHMS.
2.5 megaohms is ok and means there is no short.

              Sorry, I actually meant PU9

Re: Hp 17 dar62cmb6a0 board charging no power

Resistance on PL22 Coil at 0.8 Ohms is too low and indicates short. REmove the coil PL22 and measure resistance on both pads to determine which side is shorted. You may need to inject voltage to find out bad components(if short is on output side and this is the most likely scenario.

Re: Hp 17 dar62cmb6a0 board charging no power

The resistance to ground for s5_on is .326m ohms
the resistance to ground for pl22 is 56k

AT THIS MOMENT AS I WAS LOOKING AT THE MOBO I NOTICED PQ45 PINS 5,6,7,8 ARE SHORT.
THESE PINS ARE CONNECTED TO R350, PC442 AND PIN 7 ON PU17.
I REMOVED PQ45 AND STILL HAVE SHORT ON PINS 5-8.
I WILL REMOVE IC PU17 TO SEE IF SHORT IS GONE.

                  THANKS.

DO YOU BELEIVE THAT MAY CAUSE 3.3 AND 5V IC NOT TO STARTUP!

BY REMOVING PU17 I NOTICED THAT PIN 9 THERMAL PAD IS CONNECTED TO GROUND. IT SHOULDN'T.
I STILL GETTING SHORT ON PIN 7

I have removed on side of pl37 that goes to 3 capacitors and then to vcc_gfx and short is there.
The 3 capacitors are electrolitic pc440,pc441 and pc438.
                    What can i do!!!!

Re: Hp 17 dar62cmb6a0 board charging no power

Post#3 mentions resistance on PL22 is 0.8 Ohms whereas post#9 mentions 56K for the same coil. Which one is correct??

It seems to me you are going in wrong direction. PQ45/PL37 stands for GFX_Core and its a low voltage, high current rail. So resistance will be very low. Are you sure its showing shorted? Better you post exact resistance on PL37 Coil in Ohms mode(meter set to 200 Ohms).

You are right. USING ANALOG meter resistance of PL37 is 3 OHMS and PL22 is 50k using other digital meter

You should focus on 5V rail first. On this mb, if +5V PCU is not available, there will be no output on +3V coil(PU9 uses +5VPCU as VCC).What about ADP_ID?? Known good bios flashed??

Do you have a dc supply??

3 Ohms on GFXcore is suspect if cpu is taken out from socket. If the reading is with cpu inside the socket, it may be somewhat ok.

Your board is socket type or cpu is soldered??

                                Thanks for the help

                                On PU10 Pin6 has 5v so i do have +5vPCU
                                on Pin 11 i also have 5V resistance 1.6MOHMS
                                on Pin 12 i have 5.5v resistance 23MOHMS
                                AD_ID i have .47v
                                On pc228 i also have 5v

                                processor is solder on mobo.

yes i do have power supply. when i connected power supply amps were 200ma

what should be the reading for AD_ID!

It will vary with the adapter and logic board.

Which exact laptop model are you working with?
