Suggestions for machine for Apple Configurator 2

Hi. I think we have a candidate for our first DFU macbook with a 'critical update error' message (A1706).

With regret, we do not seem to have a machine to mate to a suitable host to run the Configurator 2 tool.

Any suggestions on such a box ? The latest models are quite expensive on Ebay and such.

We do have a macbook with the older style Thunderbolt connector - can we purchase a Thunderbolt to USB C cable and run the same tool ?

The system details does show a THUNDERBOLT controller on this other macbook.

Does the host need to have a T2 chip to run the Configurator 2 tool ?

Can a current (year?) iMAC be used as the host ?

Should the host show 'DFU' text if the target is truly in the DFU mode ? Saw that on some youtube videos.

    Welcome comments.

@piernov - thanks. We have been on this webpage and also on repairwiki.

We do not believe to have a valid machine to act as the host.

Any recommendations on an 'affordable' machine that can support the Configurator 2 tool?

Our A1534 (single USB C; 2016) machine does not offer a thunderbolt controller and the tool states 'Cannot use thunderbolt accesory. Thunderbolt accesories are not supported on this mac'.

        A1706 does not have T2.

Yes. Agreed. But we suspect that the BridgeOS is corrupt on the A1706.

          How to fix it?

Need to run configurator 2 on another machine. This other machine will be the host.

What are the minimum (lowest cost) requirements to fix the A1706 target?

Does the host need to be a T2 machine to run configurator 2 tool?

DFU recovery is for T2/M1 only.

Hey mon2, hope you are well. If your aiming to use Apple Configurator for a Revive or restore for an Intel-based Mac which contains the T2 Security Chip then see this page for all the compatable devices:

                https://support.apple.com/en-om/guid...debea5be51/mac

And to use Apple Configurator for a Revive or restore on a Mac with Apple silicon then see this page for all the compatable devices:

                https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guid...dd5f3c75ad/mac

The T2 Security Chip is powered by bridgeOS. The A1706 macbook pro contains the Apple T1 SoC instead which is powered by embedded OS (eOS).
