XVDV55 Pioneer , no disc play

    Hi all

Seems that the CD reader had failed .

Could only find it listed on Ebay via Liberty Electronics .

Have bought from them before & been quite reliable .

Quite an expensive part & wondering if there are any other suppliers in UK , or Europe so that i can save on post .

CD reader arrived , but thought before i fit ,will check caps on the servo board .

Replaced several with poor readings .

    Now for the reader .

A few other issues with this unit .

On occasion when tray ejected , it would retracted by itself .

Pulled tray out to access the detect switch , & cleaned with IPA

Also the FRONT speaker audio would cut out intermittently .

Discovered the top 2 speaker protect relays corresponding to FRONT were dry jointed at the coil side .

Remote control not working either .

Once stripped down issue was self evident .

Glue once used to secure the 8MHZ oscillator had become corrosive .

          A replacement restored operation .

Play back was still a touch temperamental .

To resolve this removed turntable motor & sprayed some IPA through the underside onto brushes .

Yet again from a cold start , after being off for a day , it wouldn't play .

Took a hair drier to the PSU module , then sprang into life again .

Time for more cap replacements i think .

                One cap found with a very poor ESR reading , C5012 ( 10MF , 50V )

Hopefully this is the cause .

Powered , tested from cold start on two consecutive mornings & all good so far .
