What touch screen does the Nextbook 8 tablet Windows 8.1 use?

I guess this is a long shot but I'm not sure where else to find this data.

Anyone know what touch screen the eFun Nextbook 8 Windows 8.1 tablet uses?

I'm trying to install Linux on this tablet and haven't the vaguest idea what driver to get and install. All of the in-kernel devices don't seem to work, nor the Goodix Touch which is what the eFun Nextbook 10 Windows uses.

If someone has Windows 8.1 running, it'd be great if someone could go into control panel/device manager and pick up the touch screen sensor manufacturer/model/ACPI ID on this machine?

    Thanks in advance!

if it's ARM based then it will have the controller integrated into the cpu - so you need to i.d. the cpu.

Re: What touch screen does the Nextbook 8 tablet Windows 8.1 use?

I had forgotten about lshw, but unfortunately it only reported stuff like the CPU, RAM, USB HCI, mounted media, stuff in lspci,

The only thing that stuck out was
        *-power UNCLAIMED
        description: OEM_Define1
        product: OEM_Define5
        vendor: OEM_Define2
        physical id: 2
        version: OEM_Define6
        serial: OEM_Define3
        capacity: 42mWh

Alas this does not say anything about the touchscreen. And It didn't even report anything about the eMMC storage and microSD card on the board which I know about since they're working. According to lshw, the only media it has is the SD card I have unmounted connected through USB. Somehow it's running lshw with no root partition (ok, maybe it thinks it's running in an initrd...)

        [edit]

Oh and yes this is an Atom based SOC. I hear the Mooresfield older Intel SoC has a resistive touch panel sensor, but I think this has a capacitive sensor and the Intel touch panel driver didn't work either.

        Other devices that lshw missed:

        I think this unit has:
GPS (maybe), ALS (Ambient Light Sensor, maybe), Accelerometer (definite), two cameras (definite), etc. amongst the touch panel, battery charger circuit, battery fuel gauge that don't show up either. I'm not sure if this thing has proper USB OTG support and its related USB mux, but at least it let me hook up external USB peripherals.

Well, if you're really that interested, this is 1 of 4, but I highly doubt the touch panel is integrated in the SoC.

Touch screen is still a mystery... I can deal without the cameras, gyro, etc. not working, but no touch screen? I think I bought a brick.

I think it's installed by default now. Triggering evdev, in xorg.log it only reports the USB keyboard, USB mouse, and one more device which I think is a weirdness in my USB keyboard as it has a "mouse" scroll wheel on it.

I'm building Linux 3.19-rc2 right now which has the Goodix driver (that I don't think my tablet uses, but the Nextbook 10" does). And GRR... head of the rtl8723bs driver repo doesn't compile anymore... glad I still have an old copy that still compiles. Oddly enough it seems that head backtracked to an older method *shrug* weird...

this is going to sound crazy, but download and run android x86.
android-x86.org it might work. if not, well its probably not linux compatible yet.

For Bay Trail SoCs, touchscreen should be connected to the i2c bus. It should be listed in
                          /sys/bus/i2c/devices/

Android x86 standard kernel (3.10) isn't compatible with Bay Trail. There's a version 3.18 kernel which works but has problems with SD controller.

Yes, they are very likely IIC bus. Or rather busses, it appears many devices are on their own IIC busses. However IIC devices do not show up unless a driver knows about them - IIC is not "in-band" pnp and hence there's really no way to poll IIC (safely) for the device identity (on the IIC bus, is legal to make "reads" have a side effect.)

So, still, anyone know what the touch screen chip is on this tablet? I ended up running down this road and just as the topic says, I think having a working Windows install would be the easiest way to find out, short of having a schematic (dang Yi-Fang Digital for actually prohibiting FCC to show a block diagram or schematic when they applied for FCC testing) or perhaps cracking the case... unless there's some other tool out there that can probe for the chip?

I was assuming he would get the latest build with the new kernel. I also knew about the SD issue, but I was having him do it for debug purposes only.

Bay Trail IIC devices are enumerated via ACPI, and Linux should be able to see them even without a working driver.

Could you post the output of:

Strange. On my baytrail tablet (with 2GB RAM), Android uses ~500MB with several background apps running. It should not crash with 1GB.

My /sys/bus/i2c/devices has 8 objects show up, from i2c-0 to 7...
I wonder if there's other i2c busses that haven't been discovered for whatever reason...
