Anyone use LowOhmsMeters much, or are ESR's more popular?

Just curious, I recently shut down my electronics manufacturing/design business and moved back to PC Repairs and I've been enjoying repairing things at the component level to convert some BER devices to a bit of extra cash on the side

...anyhow, one of the things I dumped a few thousand into before I closed up was a LOM that can get down to about 0.00001 ohms but not require so much current as to fry the poor tracks/board. I was thinking of changing the firmware in it to make it a bit more practical as a board-level testing device, something you can actually migrate your way towards a dead-short or offer easy in-circuit inductor testing. Maybe put a buzzer on it to provide an audiable guide on resistance.

    Anyone else use something similar?

*** Just to clarify, I actually designed this thing - I didn't buy it ***

Do people find ESR meters to be more useful though? I'm thinking with the number of caps that go kerput... perhaps I need to just keep both devices on hand

Yes, ESR meters are dead useful pieces of kit PLUS they can be used to measure "DC" resistance so they combine the two features into one.

Sad to hear your design/manufacture business closed. Is it too difficult to make money nowdays in today's economy even in higher-end markets such as custom engineering? I am lucky to be employed by a very successful engineering company operating in Basingstoke, who still manufacture a lot of their stuff in the UK.

Well my personal needs about low ohms is not that demanding.
Even so when I discovered that those FLUKE 87V and 28II haves a poor resolution at low Ohms,
my finding that the dinosaur FLUKE 8012A haves a special low Ohm mode and dedicated input, it become a good reason to get one.

I love handhelds and so the fresh Agilent U1270 Series it just gave me back what I was needed.
