No Audio output device found - HP pavilion G6

I have this strange problem with this board..suddenly there is no audio output device ... There is a cross sign on the sound icon on the taskbar. Headphone also does not work

I have around 2 volt on all the 4 pins of the audio connector for internal speaker.. is that normal ?

i guess your audio jack is broken or bad drivers. any sound when disconnecting the speakers and pluggin in headphones? did you check the audio manager service?

So the voltage reading on the audio connector is normal ?

The reading of 2volts on all the 4 pins were taken with unplugged audio speaker.

as far as i know it should be 0v at speakers unless its capacitor coupled output but i doubt it .

I checked a different laptop with working sound ( dfferent model not the same ) and it has 0v at the internal speaker connector points.

this is why I am very confused if the audio ic is dead..

yes its likely the audio ic shorted . is it getting hot ?

be best to get datasheet for the ic and check all voltages against it

Please clarify about ALL 4 pins of the speaker outputs show 2V?
You have speaker Left + and -, Speaker Right + and -.
If the amplifiers are single end output, then the - pin will ground so you should not see any Voltage on the ground pins, if it use Bridged mode output then the + and - pins will be the same Voltage so the speaker will see 0V since Output is no longer reference to GND not like the single ended mode amplifiers.

As I indicated, the outputs are Bridge mode (A bridge-tied load (BTL)) as indicated in the spec sheet, so what you are seeing on the output is normal. if you measure between the two pins of each speaker, you will see that the offset Voltage will be in mV range.
I do not know what is causing the 'No Audio output device found', but the output section seems to be normal.

Either a dead audio chip or just a driver problem. Take a look in the device manager and see if there are any undetected devices.

It is not easy to kill an audio chip. I doubt that it is dead. Also check the bios if the onboard audio is disabled. Some Laptops allow this.
