Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello to all. Guess you could call me a young old timer. Had my electronics course in the late '60s. So I began with tubes and transistors. Worked for a major telephone company. Started as a tech and ended as a assistant project manager in the IT dept. Am now a pensionner. To get busy I started repairing and or updating my friends pc's. Been owning pc's since the mid '80s. I also learned and programmed in basic, cobol and fortran. Lately I started looking at TV's since my nephew's TV went bad and a friend of had trouble with his tv. I am here to find, hopefully, answers to my questions relating to TV repair. So here I am, to learn and seek knowledge from experts in the domain.
    Bets regards,
    Gerry

      Hi everyone!
This forum pops up in all my searches for undocumented laptop ICs. It's been a long time since I joined a forum of any kind. I'll give it another try.
      Cheers!

                Hello everyone.
I have been around badcaps for a while now and have finally decided to give my small intro here and start to contribute to the community.
Bad caps has always helped me trough many of my repairs and I hope to finally contribute with some of my knowledge to this amazing community.
I have been doing electronics repair for about 7 years now and every day is a new day to learn something new.
I'm Portuguese from Portugal so mind my English as it is not my mother language.

Hello: i'm mikeB(muscmp is my user name). i'm a musician who has decided that i can't afford to pay to have my guitar and audio amps repaired so i am learning to do it myself. i've already completed most of my guitar amps and am now tackling the audio amps. i've already finished a sansui sax200 stereo receiver and am presently working on a scott 299a integrated amp. next will be a couple of dynaco st70s, a couple dynaco pas2 preamps and a dynaco fm3 tuner(that needs the emm801 magic eye tube). after that will be some radios. whew! i'm learning a lot but heard how good this site is so thought i'd join and learn more.
                  thanks,
                  mikeB

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread "clean" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

                                    Hi,

I am new here. I am in the computer business for more than 13 years, but I am starting with hardware now.

Up to now I am experienced in Windows XP, Vista, Seven (a little bit less in 8 and 10 - I just do not like them).

                                    MS Server Systems 2003 R2 and 2008 R2

I also specialize in routing, firewalls, and cellular data transfer.

I also know a little bit more about setting up printers and scanners (local and network) than more IT service man.

I am self employed for over 8 years now.

I am happy that I found this website because there is a drawing of a motherboard someone brought to me for a repair.

Best regards to all of you, especially for the founder.

Apart form that I love the All Might One.
