Can you revive TV remote controls?

    Hi all

Quick question - can you get TV remote controls working again when 1 or 2 buttons stop working?

When I was growing up I seem to remember my dad telling me that there was sometime like a grease that you could put on the underside of the rubber key to help them make the circuit when they touch the PCB.

    Thanks

Not sure about a grease but you can clean up the board with some isopropyl alcohol, have brought a few back, sometimes pop and other sticky stuff gets spilled on them and they just need a good cleaning.

I have used the aluminum duct tape (used in heating and cooling ducting) to "rebuild" the contact under the button in question. basically you cut an amount equal to the pad and stick it to the old pad area (it has the "pre-glue" already built in). It has worked on a few old sony remotes where cleaning and "overuse" has worn the "conductivity" of the pad away.

This has been discussed before: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26547
I have the best success using conductive rubber pad kits, I'll update that thread...

Thanks I will have a look for the rubber pad kits. I don't know what my dad was talking about then but it was 10+ years ago!
