    Re: Thorn 65thl4kst1

Connection or disconnection of any cables should always be done with the set powered off.

The flat ribbon cables all have some form of clamping mechanism.

The one in photo 1 of 2 above is to press in both sides of the connector, ie on the left and right side of connector which should release the connector allowing you to withdraw it without damage.

Other than the backlights being on do you have sound or does the set respond in any way to the remote.

      Hi

I cannot hear any sound. The remote blinks to all the buttons, and the tv accepts the remote signals.

Using the remote and pressing volume up I hear no hiss from the inbuilt speakers, or no indication/ flicker on screen changing channels/inputs etc.

Hi again...I'm wondering if I have placed this assistance post in the correct area, or if I should post it elsewhere?

No, you have the right area but I am out of idea's. However there is the chance that others who may read this post can offer you further advice.

                  Re: Thorn 65thl4kst1

I've determined that the telly has sound.

By the way, I just found this video, and although it is a different brand name, the symptons are all the same.
                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPLl...el=TightWadDIY

Lastly, the tcon board in Australia is here at this price
                  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/254960031156

But I can get it at this much lower price from AliExpress
                  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...archweb201603_

With my unprofessional eyes, I cannot see any difference between the original board, and the China one...all the numbers match up.

Is it worth trying a new T-Con board, or has what I have posted already, give any indications that my problem could be something else?

                  Thanks

The pictures are not that good to do a miniscule comparison but they do look the same.

Have you checked that you have voltage on the tcon fuse both sides. It may be that the Tcon voltage is missing.

I would check that first before replacing the board.

Not good with a multimeter...don't know what to set it to, where the fuse is, and whether power should be on/off when checking.

Mine is an old meter, no sound either.

Turn your dial anticlockwise to 20 (10 O'Clock) and place red probe on the fuse and black probe on chassis. Power on the set.
Check the voltage read on the meter when you place the red probe first on the one point the arrow marks and then for the second point the arrow marks.

Thank you Dick...I REALLY REALLY appreciate the help.

It is dark now and the telly is in the back shed. I will do the check 1st up in the morning and report back with my findings.

                            THANK YOU

                                  Hi Dick,

Sorry to be slow, however, both sides of the fuse gave a read out of 1983
                                  Does this help anything?

                                  Thanks

EDIT...I also note that there is a blue led light on the main motherboard, that indicates it is also receiving power ok

The reading with the power on should be around 12V dc. I do not know what the 1983 reading indicates. also you should have given two readings?

1983 was the reading on my Meter when checking both ends of the fuse

So you did the test with the red meter probe on one end of the fuse and the black meter lead on the chassis with the set powered up and then repeated with the red probe on the other end of the fuse?
