    Mitsumi M32E-3 CD tray motor

    Hi All,

I'm trying to repair a Kenwood DP-320 CD player. The tray motor is open circuit so I need to find a replacement.

The motor is a Mitsumi M32E-3. From a UK perspective is there a equivalent that will do the job?

    Many thanks.

It doesn't look like it is available any more, I did see used ones on the internet but they are used and could be ready to fail. There are likely replacements available or check with a local service shop, they might have one.

Is there a R-14xxxx number on the motor? there are specs for M33E-3 series but might not be the same. Do you know if it is a 6v or 12v? On similar kenwood cd players the drive voltage is 9v
You will need a motor without speed control because it is reversible CW & CCW

The full number is laid out like this:

          Mitsumi M32E-3

          CW + CCW R-145767

you may be able to just rip a motor from an old pc cd-rom drive.
            that's why i asked for a picture.

it's not like they have regulated speed or anything.
you just need the screws in the right place and the shaft the right length

There are many such small DC motors available on AliExpress etc. How long they last is a different story, but you may well find one that can fit.

Again, it would help to see a photo of the original/some measurements.

Sorry for the delay. Here are some pictures of the motor.

Without measuring them, I'd guess the threaded screw holes are M3

looks like a pretty standard motor . you want want that can go both ways . i cant imagine your one is actually worn out .might just need cleaning inside .. take it you have tested it ?

It does seem odd that it's bad as it is just for the tray, hook a 9v battery to it and give it a spin, if it runs, run it for a while to clean the brushes. The screws will likely be M2.6 x 0.45

I've powered the motor directly from a bench supply (i've gone up to 12V) and spun the spindle but it does not rotate under power. The spindle does spin freely with finger pressure.

if you open it for "science" dont expect to get it together again.
getting the brushes onto the commutator is a bitch!

Ive never been able to reassemble a small brushed motor like this.

On this type of motor you need to assemble the brush end to the armature then slide it into the motor housing. its a pain but should work.
On some motors (like the other one in the picture) there are holes in the plate to insert pins to hold the brushes away from the commutator as you reassemble it, then you remove the pins and the brushes snap into place.
