Re: Always turn the power supply switch off

I don't have the skills to even find it. Also, why would this cause that shutdown issue?

no idea, but if it causes a section of the chip to heat up then.....

By chip do you mean the ICH?

Z270, old enough to have all USB on the ICH, none on the CPU.

umm... arent u supposed to unplug the power cord from the socket as well before tinkering with the computer innards? this wouldnt have happened either if u unplugged the power cord first! so unplugging the power cord is not just for esd protection as well it seems!

well lesson learned... the topic title should be:"always unplug the power cord from the computer before tinkering!!"

i dont, i just use the power switch.
that way the cable grounds everything.

Re: Always turn the power supply switch off

well for me, i tried that before and that doesnt work for me. after tinkering, i either get power on switch latch problems whereby the mobo doesnt power on from the power switch like there's no power connected at all. i have to hold down the power button from like 15 secs to 1 min to get the system to power on or the second issue is that it manages to power on luckily but i get cmos errors on post. both are symptoms of esd dmg to the mobo. so unplugging the power cord from the socket is the only thing that works for me. i have like 2-3 dead mobos to teach me that lesson from lol!

Careful with Newegg. I ordered a New MSI board and what I got was clearly refurbed. It went back.
