Hello! New member here from central US: Yellville, Arkansas, in the Ozarks. I work in IT, but on the software side, mostly devOps and SRE, although I have some background experience with electronics in general and computer hardware from quite a few years ago. A non-booting laptop has made me seek this forum out for further electronics education and expertise .

I am a firmware/software engineering technician, I test embedded firmware, it is somewhat similar to the bios you find on your motherboard. Also test software, both leaning towards hardware side.

Firmware, software, hardware, cover all 3 pretty much... build test fixtures for Firmware engineers, compose and run functional tests.

I graduated from college in Canada with a Diploma in Industrial Electronics and Process Control. In the USA it is the equivalent of an Associated Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. I'm no BEE or MEE but I get by with what I know, and someone liked what I knew enough to move me to the USA and sponsor me for a greencard... Not sure what 10 years of experience adds to my credentials, but thats how long I've been doing this.

I hold Citizenships in Canada & UK, working on US too - collect them like Hockey cards!!

Hello my name is Brad I try to help my friends fix their electronics. This site is the best! Right now I'm trying to repair a 60” Samsung tv for a friend and my Hot Potato from the 80s it's a game. His battery is dead and needs a new coin piezo speaker.

I enjoy reading about bios dumps on this site and the ability to repair motherboards is amazing. I even fixed a few dell boards with bad filter caps and thanks to inspiration from this site.

Do wish their was mobile friendly version of the site.

Hi all, I am Robert from Dorset in the UK. I found this forum while searching for help with repairing a Denon AVR-2802 amplifier. I have really gone down the rabbit hole with this repair. When you start reading about the boot sequence for a DSP chip, you know you are in trouble. Why are things so complicated these days?

Hi, I'm a commercial pilot, A&P mechanic, and instructor of fifty years, IT specialist, residentical real estate investor.

I own several cellphones, current one is a bricked Samsung Galaxy Note8 950 that I bought off a friend for $40. A few weeks later I had it up and running.

I have 5 PC's and the fastest of them failed months ago. The complaint is white display on boot. A friend gave me his legacy Dell 4-in-1 and I've reached the end of my rope with it.

The past couple months I've immersed myself in videos, errata, and gathering tools necessary for my repairing my HP PAVILION G7 1322nr.

I've discovered upon visual inspection that at least two components are burned out: PL9; PC23. Also, I've felt a particular spot on the motherboard that gets very hot within seconds of starting it on the bench.

I'm here from a web link resulting from my search for a boardview schematic and parts list. I'm on a budget.

                                          Thanks!
                                          Wa B.
