    Gigabyte GA-P43T-ES3G - Any good?

This board uses DDR3 and will accept up to 16GB. These can be had used for $60.
They are still PCI-E2.0 and USB2.0 only. P45 boards are more like $100 or so, not worthwhile.

These are socket 775 and I have several unused quad core CPUs on hand.

My current setup is an ABIT IP35 PRO with 8GB DDR2. Will the Gigabyte board give any measurable improvement over the ABIT?

I don't have the budget for a Ryzen setup and assume a newer Intel setup (Ivy Bridge) will cost in the range of $300 or so. Would an AMD3 setup be better?

What's the best bang for buck for say $300? I'm in Canada, so stuff costs more. Off-lease I3s can be well over $200 here.

    any suggestions welcome.

That's funny, I got my P45 motherboard for $100 in 2013. It's probably one of the last DDR2 motherboards made, it's the Asus Maximus II Gene. It's one of the ROG'ers.

Of course with DDR2, you will be lucky to get 8 GB and often with mixed sticks. And don't be surprised if DDR2, with all slots filled up, requires 1.90V.
You will also be lucky to get a bit higher than 333Mhz. (666/667) with DDR2.

        Thus, I would give a DDR3 motherboard a shot.

why I recommended the Skylake. It's two slots, but ddr4 (for skylake ddr4 2133). I think max is 16gb (8x2)
