    Mbp 15 mid 2010 (no ppbus boost no batt)

    Hey all.
    Bought this pile of junk as a project :P

    So mobo is 820-2850-a (i5)

    Symptomps :

    -no battery detected (It sees it but does not know cycles or anything for that matter - brand, model etc.)
    - no PPBUS_G3H boost to 12.6v - it stays 12.24v whole time. Yet SMC works. With or w/o bat / BIL etc.

    Everything else works as far as i can tell

    Any ideas before i dump money again for random junk to do SMC swapy?

    forgot to add - all current sensing tested + u7000 swaped (was dead)

        yes green light. Voltages are comparable to what you listed in some old thread.
        will list em if needed. Will get inside again tomorrow cause ordered airport card with mount and stuff so ill check them again.Thx for reply

        Thx Piernov for that link.

          Re: Mbp 15 mid 2010 (no ppbus boost no batt)

          Diode mode (red on ground). Battery out. BIL disconnected (with it plugged in same result)

          SDA = 0.532v
          SCL = 0.516v

          voltages: AC + batt
          SDA = 3.41v
          SCL = 3.41v

          voltages: Batt only

          SDA = 3.41v
          SCL = 0.81v

          Detect_L is pulled down to 0.222v

          I hope i didn't swap the labeling of those lines

          PPBUS_G3H = 12.24v on charger+batt (w/o batt same) and 11.58v on battery.

          Camera cable is destroyed so cannot say if light sensor is working. All functions like brightness, KB lights and fans seem fine.
          Cheers

              Just reporting in.

              As suspected it was SMC. Got 1 for 30$ and now everything works like a charm

              thx all for patience and my mumbling ;p

                glad to ear it i think all in this thread was with no idea left as all remind of bad smc, but u write on top that smc was ok

                  well no ppbus adjust to 12.56v was kinda give away its borked. But i was hoping there was something with comunication :P - For me it was working since everything else smc wise was working

                  Found 1 online store here in poland with "refurbished" chips - so i thought oh cool it will come reballed ready to go

                  If you saw what i got you would

                  It was a cutout from dead board - like if you took a electric saw and cut the fragment with smc on it LOL.

                  Had to reball it by hand (do not have stencil for it) and it fixed everything - there was a moment of horror when i plugged magsafe in

                  Btw After we soldered it on i measured with diode setting (red to ground):

                  SDA = 0.505v
                  SCL = 0.506v

                  So huge diffirence.

                  I think i fried it when i was measuring u7000 (was hunting for good 1 from our old boards - 4 didnt work LOL)
                  Bough new ones and that did the trick (these are cheap).

                  Cheers - i learned alot about macs (my first 1 ;p).
                  Think ill keep it

                    Why not buy a full donor board?

                      These cost as much as i paid for that laptop (even broken ones) atleast here in poland.
