Technika LCD 32-270 - stuck in standby

    Hi there,

I've got a Technika LCD 32-270 (aka. M32/57G-GB-FTCU-UK), which is currently stuck in standby. When the power supply is on, it simply lights the red standby LED, and shows no sign of life when I press buttons on the side panel or remote control.

Directly before this happened, the TV picture was replaced by a bright green distorted mess and the sound by loud white noise - this lasted a few seconds before it turned itself off and went to standby. The same thing also happened a few months ago, after which I left it turned off for a number of weeks, and it miraculously started to work again until now!

I've opened it up and had a look at the capacitors - no obvious bulging, but there is some gunk on the positive leg of C7 on the PSU board (see pics). +5VSB measures about 4.9V constantly on my multimeter and +5V about 4.7V, +12V is very low (varying between approx. 0-4V) and +24V is dead. Should I expect all these voltages to be high, even in standby, or are they only turned on if the logic board asks for them? I guess I'm mostly trying to work out if it's the PSU or logic board at fault here.

Any recommendations for my next move?

    Thanks in advance!
    Dan

Ok I have worked on one of these before they are nasty poorly built sets, the psu had the same issue you have I found the fault to be it to be a bad switching transistor on the primary side firstly desolder them and check them, do you know how to check them ?
Also check c7 (primary) cap as it appears to be leaking ?

Agreed...C7 needs to be replaced....99% sure this will solve the problem.....1% it may also be something else.

It might not be c7 as if that failed there would be no voltages at all but try that first to rule that theroy out.

Changed C7 but ReeceyBurger was right - it didn't fix things. I'm wondering if it might be a logic board problem, given the corrupted video and sound beforehand, but power supply components are cheaper than buying a new board so worth ruling them out first! I guess I should be checking ICS1, ICS4 and Q5 (in pic 2) in terms of transistors?

Are there any labeling on the connectors of the power supply? You need to find the PS_ON pin which gets the signal from the main board to turn on the rest of the power supply. Please read my Basic LCD TV Troubleshooting guide.

Thanks for your message budm. Just tried triggering PS_ON myself with a resistor to 5VSB, then:

                  24V rail measures 23.4V
                  12V rail measures 11.8V
                  5V measures 4.8V
                  5VSB measures approx 5V

These look OK to me, so seems the problem is outside the PSU?

Yes, that means the main board is not sending the signal to turn on the power supply

Ok on the main board there will be a set of resistors I will put a ring a round them, they should send the psu start signal.

As you have correct voltages from power board, I would put my money on the eeprom on the main board normally U10 on these T.MSL 306 main boards ,but were you get one that another story ? but don't try to short it that will not work Flocko

Try the eeprom first if not I will show you what to check next.

There are 3-pin Voltage regulators on the main board that you need to test the Voltages on all 3 pins.

Hi just had on look on OHM Supplies site they list eeproms for Technikas with T.MSL 306 mains but not with your board number ( T.MSL 306 6B 10251 ) and as Andy has the biggest range of eeproms over here in the uk, I think you will have to get replacement board its a common problem with these sets Flocko

If you can be bothered trying to cope with Russian translation monitor.net.ru has a lot of EEPROM dumps, only useful if you have something to program them with though. I doubt you'll find a match but using the board number you may find something close. Obviously no guarantee if you can even find one that it will be any good options wise.

Can report that a new logic board fixed it. Unfortunately the screen got cracked moving house so it's now a write-off, but good to have found the solution to the problem! Thanks all for your help.

Thats a pain, normaly replacement lcd screens for these sets are around £130 but its not worth it as you can get a good 32" lg for around £250 that will last alot longer than this junk.
                                    Take care pal

Hi. I have the same model with the same problem. Does anyone have the firmware bin file for the SPI? I can write the SPI myself so no point buying a programmed chip. Thanks!

if you freeze the spi chip does the set start if it does take a copy of the file i have saw this method mentioned a few times even norcal on youtube has a video on it.
