Help me identify missing component from Radeon HD4850

    I messed up this time.

I accidentally tore apart an smd component from a HD4850 I was trying to troubleshoot.

    The card is Gainward HD4850 PCI-E 1024MB DDR3 TV-OUT 2DVI
    P/N: XAE 4850S+T302-PM9148

The markings on the smd are VE 1 and it has 5 legs, 3 on 1 side and 2 on the other side. I searched but couldn't find anything about it.

Here are some photos from the card that I found on the internet:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1599312735
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1599312735

And some photos of my card and a super macro of the component I tore apart:

The legs are still soldered on the PCB, so I hope I haven't caused any damage to the card itself. I would like to try to replace it and then test the card again.

I tested the card without the component on a pc and nothing happens.

The best I can come up with so far is the NXP 74LVC1G08GW

Re: Help me identify missing component from Radeon HD4850

I checked my reference-designed HD4850, and the same component, U11, seems to be labeled Z08k. I wasn't able to find anything exactly for "Z08k", but Z08 mirrors what R_J suggested, with this being a single 2-input AND gate.

Also, I popped and eyeball out somewhere while squinting and trying hard to read the part numbers on my IC... and now I can't find that eyeball anywhere.

(Seriously, that is some really really tiny text. It was hard to read even with a magnifier... or maybe I'm just getting old )

      *EDIT*
Doing a bit of tracing shows that B input is tied to Vcc (i.e. high). Thus, when A is high, Y will be high too, and when A is low, Y would be low too.
This suggests it may be possible to use a simple resistor from A to Y... and on the PCB, it looks like there is soldermask and pads for one. I imagine they didn't do this perhaps only because the signal from A might be too weak to drive the Y output (be it low or high). But if you feel experimental, you could try a 1 KOhm resistor and see what happens. Worst case, nothing. On the other hand, if you can't find a replacement IC, it seems that a non-inverting buffer IC of some sort would do OK too.

Thank you very much for your help. I agree that everything implies it's this part:
        74LVC1G08GW

I will apply the trick with the resistor and get back with the results

NC7SZ08P5 matches Z08 according to my datasheet catalog
"The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."

Unfortunately couldn't find time for this, but I checked the box with my spare pci-e cards and found this:

            https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1600452868

            It's an ATI-102-A924 , Radeon X1300 Pro 256MB for HP.

            The card is working.

I found the same part on the pcb of the card:

Well, that works too. Congrats on yet another repair!

Those X1300 cards (along with HD2400 Pro and HD3450 Pro) were literally sold by the bucket on eBay not too long ago... and still quite abundant. So it's not like you sacrificed a special card.

Speaking of which, I looked up your Gainward HD4850, and if it uses the 2-slot heatsink with 2 copper heat pipes along with 8-pin PCI-E power connector, then it might be "Golden Sample" edition with 700 MHz core clock and 1100 MHz mem clock.
              https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/16...ard/index.html
Not that it seems to make that much difference in performance, especially considering current-gen video cards. However, it is worth noting, because if it does use the 2-slot cooler and you flash it to use regular HD4850 clocks, then you might see a noticeable decrease in the GPU temperature.

Re: Help me identify missing component from Radeon HD4850

I am sorry, what I meanth is that the card I just posted above, the ATI-102-A924 , Radeon X1300 Pro 256MB for HP is working.

I wouldn't sacrifice a perfectly working card to try to fix a card that, best chances, will not work even after the removed smd gets replaced.

Btw this ATI-102-A924 HP has DMS59 connector that needs an adapter to get dvi/vga/etc

                https://www.memory4less.com/images/p...A924(B)-lg.jpg

And it is low profile, so, to fit on a regular ATX case, I removed the back plate and installed another one taken from a dead gpu. It fits but looks

                Then I ordered this:

                https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-DMS59-...72.m2749.l2649

                and this:
                https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3301...46ed4c4dqSKicL

Now, about trying to fix the HD4850....

I found another Radeon card with maybe the same smd part:

                EAH5450 Silent/DI/1GD3(LP)

And this one is totally dead

Should I try to remove the part from that one and solder it to the HD4850?

Here are some pics of the dead card:

                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1601035027

Notice that the marking is different though.. Here it is J2.

                Is this compatible?

                      Ah OK, sorry I misunderstood.

That's the only thing I dislike about those cards - they can often be found for free or cheap, but rarely come with the adapter. I like them for low-power builds. Though those particular X1300 cards aren't the coolest running ones, due to having 128-bit memory bus. On the plus side, they actually performs quite well in early 2000's games (i.e. anything DirectX 9b and earlier.)

I found another Radeon card with maybe the same smd part:
                      ...

If the part is in the same (or similar) spot and connected in the same way as the one on your HD4850 (it looks like it is - I checked), then it probably is the same part.

The different marking is because there isn't a standard naming convention when it comes to small SMD parts like that. Thus, different manufacturers often use different markings for the same part. For example, a 3904 NPN BJT can be marked as "1AM" if it was made by ON-Semi, or "K1N" if it was made by Diodes Inc.

So it's probably the same part.

Also, I just noticed there appears to be a lifted pad on your HD4850 where that part goes (middle pin of the row with three pins). You can see it on this image:
                      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...2&d=1599313534
It it repairable (probably will have to use a thin small wire to extend past the missing pad, or just connect the wire directly between the IC's pin and somewhere else on the board, whichever you find is easier.
