    Toshiba 46TL963

Hi folks... have a tosh 46tl963 that flickered its backlight during a 3d movie a few days back, then went dark... i like the screen, so would like to ressurect if possible rather than consigning it to recycling / landfill, which seems a hell of a waste...

have flashlight tested, and picture / sound is still there, just no backlight...

attached pics of the boards, after opening it up, nothing seems obviously popped and no caps look swollen, so not sure if its the led power board or a faulty led on the backlight... hoping for the former, but wanted to gather an opinion or two before ordering a replacement...

when i power on, the backlight comes on for a split second, then goes dark... not entirely sure where to start on trouble shooting,

    many thanks for any help,
    John

I can't read legend. Need to take readings off connector going to leds when you first power on and record max. dc voltage.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Picture 3. Have you got 24V on CN002 and what volatges do you have on CN003.
Also what voltage do you have on the 12V pad and two Vout pads.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

This video shows pretty much the same tv, using the same driver as your set.

In the video he goes on to repair the existing strip, however a better more reliable fix is to replace the strip with a new from aliexpress.

This is the strip I usually buy for this model.
          Just check your panel number.

              Re: Toshiba 46TL963

              Hey folks...

tested voltages, 1 of the lines was clearly out of range, after complete disassembly traced 1 led out, managed to find an exact match for the led strip from an ebay seller, as the panel no. was different from the ones quoted on the aliexpress link and didn't get a response from the seller,

led strips available here for $20 if anyone else has a need to sort one of these with $2 delivery,

              http://www.ebay.com/itm/LJ64-03495A-...-/201707940673

ordered a spare for future use, and also, found a handy place that has tcon and led driver / main power boards available for them, http://emos-tvs.co.uk/ search by model no, and what they have in stock should come up,

fingers n toes crossed now when the part arrives its as expected, hah,

thanks again, your advice gave me confidence to tackle sorting this out, and those videos were great,

                Re: Toshiba 46TL963

Yeah that eBay seller will also be on Ali express.
It's probably the same part btw.

The only thing I'd point out Is that it comes with double sided tape. The one in your set will have the small clips to hold it in place.

It'll work fine but you may need to scrape the clips down with a file so it sits flush.

yeah, i suspected it might be the same part , but couldn't get a definitive yes from the seller, happily, the one ordered arrived and was also a perfect fit,

i drilled out the lugs, as they were stamped through on the aluminium, then a little smack with a chisel on the remaining ring of metal sheared it off flush, thanks for the heads up on that,

rebuilt the unit after a quick test of function and it popped back to life with a nice clear picture... actually appears to be quite a bit brighter than before, (i mean before it was entirely dark haha)

so off to the Mother in law it goes... am a lot happier than dumping it in landfill, and i no longer have to wear the lcd 3d glasses only as fashion accessories... thanks for the assistance!

Good fix and make sure to turn down the backlights level to as low as possible to extend the life of the LEDs.
