    PS5 brief power won't start

powers on + beeps briefly for a second displaying a blue light then powers back off
    • checked all fuses ok
    • checked for voltages, found 12v, 5v, 3.3v, 1.8v (I am not 100% sure where to successfully check for all)
    • started checking each inductor ohms to ground, all ok apart from a 1R5 near the DCIN, shorted 0.3ohms
    • checking components around the inductor appears a small plane on the front of the board is shorted progressing through to a plane on the rear side
    • surrounding circuits not on this plane are not affected
    • I have check caps around the board in each various circuit for a similar short and have found none (so far)
    • everything appears localised to this single area
    • I did remove the mosfet on the right (stupidly) as I had a lapse of judgement and forgot the inductor to the right was still in circuit. I tested it off board anyway and it's fine

red shorted (0.3ohms) , blue not shorted

    shorted inductor

    top of the board

    back of the board

mosfet? end of the back of the board shorted trace (I can't find a datasheet)

I don't have voltage injection + thermal yet but I'm in the process of buying both.

I am wondering where to progress through to next. The short seems so localised to this single area that I am tempted to start removing the ceramic caps but wondering if anyone has any further input.

found out it was one of the small caps below one of the mosfets which had gone bad, replaced it for another and it's back up an running

my ps5 power supply is only supplying 6 volts. can i use my bench power supply to troubleshoot the board?

if the psu is only supplying 6volts - shouldnt you fix it first?

do you try to inject voltage?

sorry I've only just seen this.
                you still need the info?

first you try remove the coil.which side is short.next remove the smd caps first.and mosfet.i think its a shorted mosfet.

Re: PS5 brief power won't start

My ps5 dropped and has same issue 1 second blod.
Back and around the APU the capacitor are shorted. Is this normal?
I don't see any video where these capacitors are measured.

apart from that everything is alright and can’t find any other problems.

                    I would appreciate any help!

Re: PS5 brief power won't start

Is it just low on resistance or is it a dead short?

What is shown in the photo is the choke (inductors), they will show a short circuit.
If it fell, then the chip most likely fell off (the processor under the radiator), only a reball will help, if the nickels on the motherboard under the processor have not come off.

                            yes and should be 12v

Just about any electronic component store like Mouser, DigiKey, or eBay and AliExpress etc. Take a measurement of the size of the cap to the left of your missing one and figure out the SMD size like 603 or 402 etc. Measure the capacitance from that cap, order what you need and Bob is your uncle. Or you get a donor board from eBay etc.
