    Re: Reballing Fusion IC

Could you post a picture of the IC, and more specifically of the corroded pads, if possible?
Also, are you sure the pads weren't ripped off? If that's the case, the spot where the pad was will look like a brown spot and solder won't stick to it. If that's the case, the IC is likely done for. Otherwise, if you are sure the pad is still there, clean area well with 99% or higher IPA, then use a small sharp flat-heat screwdriver (or similar sharp object) and clean the pad by scratching it and exposing the copper on the bottom. Once exposed, put flux and tin the pad with a soldering iron. Then clean with wick, then clean with IPA, then try reballing that pad/area again.

That aside, what brand of flux are you using and where did you buy it?
So cheap rosin fluxes can really burn up and make it hard for solder to stick to afterwards, so that's why I'm asking.

Intel iMacs, 3rd party SSD failures and Fusion setups
      by reformatt
I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

820-00138-A - Advice on how to fix corroded missing / pads
      by mikay786
Working on this a MacBook i purchased, has some corrosion around what according to the schematic is SSD CURRENT SENSE circuit. I've got 3 missing pads

The pad left side of R3742, where would be best to run a jumper wire too?

I assume the other 2 missing pads should be simple enough with top C3701 pad which appears to be connected to the other components on the same plane. Pad on right side of R3742 just need to make sure is connected to trace.

Mainly struggling with left pad of R3742 and where to run a jumper, maybe a via as appears to go to multiple...

Is it good to use chemistronic flux off es835b for flux remover?
      by chth96
I want to purchase any good flux remover But "chemistronic flux off es835b" is the most common flux remover in my nation..
Is it good to use chemistronic flux off es835b for flux remover?
Or I have to purchase "3m novec flux remover" which is quite expensive in my nation?

Each GPU reballing produces different MATS results, looking for root cause ?
      by DynaxSC
      Hi,

I have an Nvidia card which makes me wondering, what is the root cause for Mats errors. The story is as follows:

      1. When I received the card Mats showed one memory with errors.

      2. Replaced the memory chip, but no change, still same error, so memory chip is ruled out.

      3. Made a carefull reballing of the GPU, MATS showed 3 memories with errors, the one before, and 2 other new chips.

      4. Made a second reballing of the GPU and Mats shows again only one memory chip with errors, the same on as in the beginning.

      5. Made...
